Subtitile Says it All: The Glory of a Heart Fully Alive
Ever go through life "zombie-like." You're just going through the motions, doing your job, collecting the check, and vegging out by the TV? This is NOT a "heart fully alive," that is, all that God has destined you to be. Jesus taught much of the time in parables, and Eldredge uses contemporary movies and stories to draw parallels to everyday life, so that we may have "eyes to see and ears to hear." I'm reading it for the 3rd time, and buy copies here from time to time to give to friends. Yes, it's that good.

Mars / Venus? HA This answers the root questions, why we do what we do.
Walking on eggshells? Does everything you say seem like the wrong thing? "How did we get here?" Is this really worth it. ALL of these questions are answered with this excellent book. Written with a Christian worldview, but this book is beneficial for ANYONE who wants to peek behind the surface, get to the root of the matter, and discover how to connect like you FIRST did. Should be mandatory reading for newlyweds. And I'm now married for for 22 years... and still going!! Get it. You wont regret it.

Great book. Read it WITH someone!
This book is a GREAT tool for finding the pebble in the shoe of your mind that causes anger. Ultimately (of course) YOU have to remove the pebble yourself. I first used this in context with talking with a counselor. The workbook had me relate SPECIFIC anger struggles, and I could bring those items each week to hash over with my counselor. This book is very "meat and potatoes, and although the examples seem a bit stilted (my only complaint) they are still accurate in how anger plays out. Sometimes the SOURCE of our anger is outside of our self, but we CAN change our RESPONSE to those triggers, and stop doing things that are destructive to ourselves and those around us. Even if it's not a counselor, I would recommend reading this WITH someone, and hashing out the "stuff" with someone you trust. This book DOES speak from a Christian perspective, but it's not "pie in the sky;" it's VERY "rubber meets the road." And it wont teach you to not speak in cliche's either. You would never know this book is written by a couple of Christian doctors by looking at the front or back cover. So there: you've been "warned" if you think you need that warning. The biblical correlation is not preachy, but rather if a very wise old man were helping you navigate life. Even if I weren't Christian, I would find those (infrequent)parts very helpful. Got anger issues? Get this book. Its a useful tool. Get that pebble out of your shoe.
