The Late and Most Certainly Great, Townes Van Zandt
Every person is ultimately defined not by what they achieve, but rather by whom they are loved. Townes Van Zandt certainly had his short comings, but let it never be said that his short comings were his songs. As his friend dearly puts it, "Townes Van Zandt is the best folk song writer of all time! And I'll stand in my cowboy boots on Bob Dylan's coffee table and tell him that!" What more can be said? Townes is reviewed and defined in this superb documentary by those who knew him best, his friends and his family. Really it can all be summed up by one Van Zandt quote in the film, "I always figured it was heaven, purgatory, hell, then the blues. I've been trying to get out of the blues so long, I figure if I ever make it to purgatory, I'll be doing just fine." Interested yet?

Death Cab For Cutie
For any avid Beatles fan, you may enjoy the shear quirkiness of their humor. As silly as anything the Beatles ever filmed, this particular movie seems underdeveloped. Not only does it feel whipped together from LSD trips and John Lennon's dreams (or nightmares rather), the entire concept is poorly constructed and very cheaply executed. But that isn't the reason we watch these is it? We watch these films to gain further insight into the minds and psyches of those whom we respect far beyond the music they created. If you are not a Beatles fanatic, don't bother. Buy "A Hard Days Night", easily their most accessible film, seeing as that it is basically the first "music video" ever. Next try "Help", it is superior to any other Beatles' quirky humor films.
