A hook in from start to finish. The character identification as it occurs sets the stage for questioning throughout the duration of events.
Dream State is an incredible book throughout the duration of events as they occur. This writer has a way of almost leading you by the hand & walking you through the events as they continue to transpire. I was really moved by this writing in that as I read it, I felt as though I could almost even smell & taste, as well as feel fear. The outstanding quality of this aspect of writing was key in this storyline. I felt while reading this Psychological Thriller, that I was playing the game of Clue, attempting to predict who the true suspect was. This continued to happen the entire time I read this, & in this area of fiction, the way it has been written, really blew me away. I found myself actually wanting to defend several characters, while wanting to also know much more regarding the preacher's character, why is he this way, why does he target the weak, only to attempt & control them. Is it because of their weak minds, or is it the frailty of their substance abuse, is this preacher a Cult Leader of some sorts? Couple that, with fact, that this book really goes in such a way to understand how others grieve, under pain, fear, & most certainly loss of loved ones. Several characters felt like they could have been my neighbors. Again, what ties this book together so well to me as a reader is this writer's way of walking you through an event/situation/murder, all the while still needing that closure of finding out what really happened. I have never heard of this writer before, but I hope the show is not over yet, because I need some additional closure in the very near future. This Preacher's Character is a real lead in & a draw to me, as I was raised in the mountains of Western North Carolina, & it really jolted me at a level that has not been stirred up in a long while....
