Super series by a great author!
Lois McMaster Bujold is a wonderful author who has created a very believable fantasy world where magic exists and with quirky characters who really draw you into the story. I love the whole series. This is book 4 of 4. There is action. adventure, character development and romance throughout the whole series of the Sharing Knife, more action and adventure than anything else. There are parts that will make you catch your breath and parts that will give you a chuckle. If you like this series, try the very different but enjoyable Vorkosigan series also by Bujold. This is a sci fi story and I would read it in chronological order (see the back of some of the latest books (like A Civil Campaign-my favorite!) to get that information).

Great book if you like sci fi, romance and/or adventure!
Funny sci fi romance with a lot of well-thought out characters. You can see them grow and mature in this series. I love that Susan Grant makes you think about things. I loved how the family stuck together and was a big part of the story. The fact that the main character, State Senator Jana Jasper is a politician that you would love to have in your state is intriguing as I tend to stay out of politics. She says what she means and stands by what she says. Cavin of Far Star is a good match for her with his strong belief in her and in Earth. I like the way the prologue set the whole story up and thengs flowed smoothly and quickly from there! There is always some adventure in a Susan Grant story. The story has many twists and introduces characters that will take center stage in book 2 My Favorite Earthling and book 3 How to Lose an Extraterrestrial in 10 Days. So grab all 3 books like I did, sit down and enjoy!

Great story, great characters, Tamora Pierce always satisfies!
Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite fantasy authors. I reread her stories whenever I am in the mood for a pick-me-up. Her stories have super detailed worlds with magic. The characters are well-drawn and engaging and their situations draw you in. It is very easy to identify with these characters. This book is the start of the second series with the characters from the Circle of Magic series. These stories are darker and more intense than those of the first series. They are harsher than the books in the first series and the troubles are still solved, but the results make you think. This is what makes it a super series for teens and young adults. Life is not sugar-coated in these 2 follow-up series. ALL Tamora Pierce books make you think. I like that the young mages (3 girls and one boy) from the Circle of Magic are going out into the world and discovering other mages in this second series called the Circle Opens. Then they have to teach them until or if they can find a better teacher for the new mages. There are 2 types of mages, those that use spells and those that draw the magic from the nature of their skill. The main characters all are in the second category, but the majority of mages are in the first category. The newly discovered mage's skill is dance and it is interesting to see how a thread magician will have to work with that. There are also some serious secondary mysteries that go on during this series. I would recommend that you read the Circle of Magic first in order: Sandry's Book, Tris's Book, Daja's Book and Briar's Book (one for each new mage, but all intertwined and following in chronological order). Then read the Circle Opens series: Magic Steps, Street Magic, Cold Fire and Shatterglass. Then you can read the Circle Reforged in chronological order and NOT the order in which these were published: Battle Magic (just came out), Melting Stones, and The Will of the Empress as the culmination. After I read Battle Magic and lend it to my Mom, sister and nephew, I plan on rereading the whole series again in the order that I gave you. If you like these, then I would go on to any of Tamora Pierce's other series. They are phenomenal stories for teens and some of the best that I have ever read and also reread. She writes with very strong female characters, sometimes called sheroes. Check out the Song of the Lioness series (Alanna: the First Adventure, In the Hands of the Goddess, The Woman Who Rides Like a Man and Lioness Rampant), followed by the Immortals series (Wild Magic, Wolf-Speaker, Emperor Mage and The Realms of the Gods), then the Protector of the Small (First Test, Page, Squire, and Lady Knight) and finally the Daughter of the Lioness (Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen). The first 3 series are 4 books each and the last one is only 2 books, but with as many pages as the four in the other series! Try them. Obviously I can't say enough about any of them!
