A premature but worthwhile purchase.
I bought this book with my grand-daughter in mind. It was rather a premature purchase because she has only just cut her first tooth! Before you think I'm completely mad, let me explain. I teach young children and I am always on the look out for interesting books to stimulate their creative and imaginative skills. Little girls adore pretending they are princesses so this book with its role plays really lends itself to these activities. I tried it out on some of my weeny students and they had such fun with it. My daughter was also ecstatic when she read it and can't wait to try it out on her own daughter. So, there you go I made a good purchase as the book offers hours of entertainment for young children, not to mention mums and grannies.

Satisfactory depiction of content
I have always loved and been intrigued with the twenties era when artists and women alike showed they had free spirit. A fun loving and sometimes outrageous 'kick to life' developed taking society away from the conformity and austerity of the Victorian/Edwardian eras. These Erte paper dolls depict this free spirit in the beautiful Art Deco designs which portray an assertive but elegant style of femininity. I adore the designs so much so, that it has triggered a desire to lay my hands on some of the equisite designs to run up some of the dresses !!! No doubt about it, I confidently recommend it and take my hat off to Susan Johnston.

adequate
This book is a delightful portrayal of extremely elaborate Victorian gowns. Of course being from Harper's Bazaar they are lavish in detail and design. Personally, the only thing I find disappointing is the size of the actual doll. I would prefer a slightly larger scale of doll and subsequently clothes.
