Tamron 18-200mm Di II VC Zoom Lens for Nikon
07 févr. 2018
Perfect SLR lens for me
I am using this 18-200mm lens with a Nikon D3100 camera. This camera uses a smaller sensor size than a full-size SLR. This means that all "mm" specifications have to be multiplied by 1.5. That makes this lens a 27-300mm wide-angle to zoom eqeuivalent, which I like, because I prefer to have more zoom than more wide angle -- and 27mm wide angle is already enough. 300mm is the equivalent of a 6x zoom lens. The lens is reasonably compact at 3.5 inches long. Wen not extended, it is the size of my hand wrapped around it, so a comfortable size. When zoomed all the way, the lens extends by another 3 inches. The aperture is small (f3.5 for wide angle and f6.3 for maximum zoom), but that is to be expected with this low of a price. Since zoom photos are always taken outdoors, this is not too much of a problem. The filter ring size is 62mm, but it comes with a sun shade which also help keep fingers off the glass. The lens works exactly as you would expect: manual zoom control, auto or manual focus. In addition, the anti-vibration can be turned off, which you want off at slow shutter speeds. There is a lock that keeps the lens from extended by accident, such as when you carry the camera hanging down.

Faster Android 7 tablet has poor camera
This is one of the rare Android tables that comes with a fast CPU (2.1HGz), Android 7, and is at a reasonable price. It is made by a reputable manufacturer (ASUS) and so there are no gotchas -- for the most part. The 4GB operation RAM and 64GB storage RAM (53GB effective free storage) are the main reason I bought this model. The body has a slot in which a microSD card can add even more storage, but you need a SIM slot pick to open it. The port is USB-C but it comes with the headphone jack. The tablet feels heavy, which I think is from the big battery. I have not tested battery longevity, since I tend to use this tablet around home, where power outlets are aplenty. It includes a cardboard stand with a rubber grip that is effective in holding it up in landscape mode. As a technical writer, I love that ASUS lets me assign the screen grab function to the Recent Apps button: I just have to hold it for two seconds -- no two button fumbling! It works with ASUS' own Z Stylus pen, but I haven't tried, because it is pretty expensive and I found I never use a stylus with a touch screen anyhow. I bought a third-party cover that also acts as a stand and automatically turns off the screen when closed. I was initially disappointed that the three Android buttons are hardwired to the bottom (in portrait mode) of the tablet -- which means that they are on the side when viewing movies in landscape mode. I realized this was required, because the hardware home button is also the fingerprint reader. In any case, I got used to the vertical orientation of the buttons. At least they light up, so that I can see them in the dark -- unlike my ASUS cell phone. That was a minor gotcha. The major gotcha is the poor quality of the camera. I had expected something really good, based on the excellent images from my ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom cell phone. This tablet's camera is no better than the ones in no-brand tablets. There is a mild sluggishness, such as when returning to the home screen -- despite the 2.1GHz CPU. I am guessing this is due to the greater-than-HD resolution screen. Other tablets I own that have have 1.5HGz CPUs and are even more sluggish. There are few tablets with Android 7, and maybe the code isn't optimized for them. In the end, I decided to keep this tablet, as it feels solid and . I just wish the camera would take nicer photographs.
