Stay Away from Refurbished Hard Drives!
1 personnes sur 3 ont jugé cet avis utile. Old, wore out junk! Didn't realize how much it had been used until I checked it out with HD Tune to check the drive's health.
The drive clicks at startup, at shutdown, and during hard use.
The only "refurbishing" that was done was that it had been wiped to delete the data that was on it.
If one really needs a hard drive, buy new! There are plenty of them listed on eBay.
I originally bought this drive to run XP Pro on my newer PC with, but will now use it to evaluate the upcoming Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Hopefully, it'll last long enough until the actual OS is released.

Great Upgrade for (most) any AM2 PC
2 personnes sur 2 ont jugé cet avis utile. I purchased several AM2 CPU's to get the best performance for a couple of PC's over the years, and have to say, this is the one, stop looking! It's basically all one will get in a dual core AM2 series CPU (in fact, no AM2 quads were manufactured). Yet this is as good as some low end quads, maybe better, example, many of the AM3 CPU's that will fit will lose performance, and chances are probable that your dual channel RAM will run in single channel mode.
Mine's installed in a Dell Optiplex 740 'DT' edition, the model just below the mid tower, though larger than two others (SFF & USFF). The only upgrade I felt that I needed to make was adding a copper core cooler, these are available on eBay for $12-16 shipped ( P/N:HK912) for the Optiplex 740 SFF & DT series, may fit other models. This was recommended on the Dell Hardware Forum due to it being a 95W CPU, though not mandatory, it brought temps down by a good margin (from 40C at idle to just under 30C), more so during usage. Only a thin layer of thermal paste spread evenly, a glaze, is needed & I highly recommend Arctic Silver 5, also on this site (please check seller feedback before purchasing anything). One 3.5 gram tube of this is good for 10 CPU installs, and store with the plunger upright.
At any rate, this CPU breathed new life on my Dell Optiplex 740, which now dual boots Windows 10 Pro & Linux MInt Cinnamon 18. I simply cannot say enough good about this lifesaver CPU, as this PC was about to be scrapped for usable components & the rest tossed in the recycle bin outdoors.
Do your AM2 PC a favor & get this chip while these are available in good condition. You'll get another 3-5 years of use out of the PC, or convert into one for the kids to do homework/play basic games on.

Best SATA-2 HDD on the Market (if you get a good one)
6 personnes sur 7 ont jugé cet avis utile. With a massive 64MB cache, the WD RE4 is a fantastic performer. I have three of these, one which has seen action in 6 different PC's. Still going strong today, there's a reason why these shipped with a 5 year warranty.
In reality, these WD RE4's are upscale (or upgraded) Caviar Blacks, has 2x the cache, and runs quieter also. This is because the RE4 isn't a consumer oriented HDD, there's businesses with multiple of these drives installed, so has to be quiet & fast. Check the specs closely so that you don't get a WD RE4-GP, a 'power saving' drive that's not the same, though a simple trick booting into the freely available Ultimate Boot CD to disable parking (under HDD's, go to WDIDLE & when loaded, type wdidle3 /d) can make these two models the same, as well as disable parking of any other installed WD drives. I'm including this information to inform consumers to check specs & be aware of features that can extend drive life. Disabling parking can in reality, double a drive's lifespan, regardless of number of hours used. That's the trick used by many, and in some cases, one can get a HDD with over 50,000 hours of use, and less than 200 start/stop cycles. Consumer can benefit from the same trick, though will have more start/stop cycles by default when computer is shutdown or rebooted.
The WD RE4 is a true workhorse of a HDD, it's as simple as that. Even post retirement, makes excellent backup drives using a docking station or enclosure constructed of metal, the heavier, the better & avoid plastic models, though it's OK for the end caps to be. A fan is a plus, though if not ran 24/7, not a necessity.
Check the seller's feedback before purchase, chances are that the best sellers will give a great deal on these drives, some of which are still covered by WD's warranty.
