More to the Story
David Strathairn was great, the black and white photography beautiful, but you never really understood what pushed Murrow to finally confront McCarthy. The movie just picks up in the middle of the story, expecting the viewer to just accept the introductory text saying that America was very afraid of communism in the 1950s and 1960s. The other thing I took from it was the intended point about how bad television news is today, how timid reporters are, when the risks for them are so much lower than they were when Murrow and his colleagues bet their careers on confronting a man quite capable and willing to destroy lives.

Too Much Al, but Stil...
Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" is a compelling presentation about the urgency and potential impact of continued global warming. It's also a reasonably entertaining documentary, considering it's basically a Powerpoint presentation, though Al clearly used something better than Powerpoint to put it together on his prominently displayed Mac Powerbook. As an aside, the good guys always use Macs in the movies, while the bad guys use PCs. Watch and see if I'm wrong. Anyway, this last point about Al and his Powerbook gets at my only complaint: too much Al. The guy's massive ego just comes blasting through as he returns again and again to the sort of self-promotion that led so many to jump on him when he made otherwise trivial gaffes about his role in developing the internet. Watching this video, you feel ashamed that we as a people were so stupid not to vote Al into office in 2000, and you don't hear much about his abyssmally poor performance as a candidate. But no matter. Even Al can't undermine the compelling science, compellingly told in this film. Check it out.

Not as Strong as Other Pixar Movies
It was entertaining, and had a positive message, but as the credits rolled and characters from Pixar's other films like Monsters, Inc and Toy Story appeared, I realized that this film just didn't compare to the earlier Pixar efforts. Cars dragged in spots, and seemed to take too long to get to its climax, though my view could have been influenced by my kid, who seemed to get bored during that long second act. All of this said, however, I'd still recommend it for the kids, as the movie was refreshingly free of the violence that moviemakers include to get the more marketable PG rating, and I enjoyed the gentle humor and beautiful animation.
