Some assignments show influence of the popular GTA3, putting the player behind the wheel of a car or at the trigger of a gun, while others may call for more stealth and deception, or the use of the hero's impressive judo skills. Awesome action/shooting, GTA-style game!
Gamers who loved playing straight forward action games like "Dead To Rights" and "Syphon Filter 3" or open-ended action games like "Grand Theft Auto III" and "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" will enjoy "True Crime: Streets Of L.A." a lot. Although similar to those PS2/XBOX "Grand Theft Auto" games, "True Crime: Streets Of L.A." is a much shorter game, taking about 10-15 hours to beat (if you just want to tackle the main missions and skip the side missions), compared to the 40-50 hours of "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City". Also in "True Crime: Streets Of L.A.", you play as a cop (although maybe a loose cannon) instead of a bad guy/criminal. The character you play is Nick Kang, and (I got a real kick out of this) he is voiced by Russell Wong, who has appeared in films like "Romeo Must Die" and ... Other celebrity voices include Michelle Rodriguez, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, Michael Madson, Ron Perlman, Mako, James Hong, and CCH Pounder. There's a pretty good story - typical cop thriller stuff, but you'll enjoy it if you like the cop thriller stuff. This is aided by great cinema scenes with some nice voice acting. I also got a real kick out of the ending cinema (it's the one with Nick and the old guy), which had nothing with story, but was entertaining nonetheless. Combat includes shooting (you can even shoot while driving) and hand-to-hand fighting. Aiming and shooting is similar to GTA, and works well for the most part. You can even enter a First Person Mode for better aiming, but the controls in this mode are a bit off, so you're better off not entering the First Person mode unless you need an accurate shot at someone like a faraway sniper. Hand-to-hand combat is solid... if you're fighting you're fighting one or two bad guys, but if a group surrounds you, you're better off running away or using your guns. There's some combos for you to use and you should learn to use some of them, since they not only help in combat but also might be the only way to beat some of bosses. There are some fun stealth missions where you have to sneak into buildings unseen. Like GTA, you can "jack" just about any car you want. Some missions require you to stop or take down a moving vehicle, so you'll use a combination of driving and shooting, just like chase scenes in action moveies! Since it is set in L.A., you can see some real-life buildings, like the Staples Center. Nice touch! The only negative thing about this game is that it froze up on me twice (causing me to lose about 2 hours), but it wasn't enough to hinder my enjoyment of the game. Anyway, this is fun game that's not to be missed by those who like action/shooting games! I highly recommend this game. Rated M for Violence, Blood & Gore, Strong Language, and Mature Sexual Themes Graphics: 5 (some of the best graphics on PS2, brighter and better than the "muddy graphics of GTA III and Vice City) Sound: 4 (great voice work, pretty good hip/hop and hard rock soundtrack, with some killer tunes from bands like Taproot and Deftones) Controls: 5 (controls aren't perfect but pretty darn close; the controls during first person mode could have been better) Fun Factor: 5 (Only one of the few games that I could say was fun to play from beginning to end!) Overall: 5 (Highly recommended for those who enjoy action/shooting games!)

Shooter Game that is like a real piece of LA
Not for young unparented game players. Play at your own risk!?! This game is like a real piece of LA everyday news! Violence from the get go! If you are in to carnage and street war this is the game for you. Total all out chaos on multiple levels! Of course there is upgrades to be won! We collect Playstation games, so of course this was another purchase for that as well! PS2 still rocks at our house and will for years to come!Not for young unparented game players. Play at your own risk!?! This game is like a real piece of LA everyday news! Violence from the get go! If you are in to carnage and street war this is the game for you. Perhaps the best action game of 2003!!!
True Crime: Streets of LA was a competitor of the GTA series. It's a really fun game which involves Nick Kang (played by Russell Wong), an ex-LAPD officer who joined a secret police force called EOD (Elite Operation Division) and took on a roller coaster adventure in the quest to seek the killer of his father. The game features a virtual world of the recreated city of Los Angeles. The player can jack cars, deal with street crimes, or upgrade their stats in places like shooting galleries, dojo clubs and driving schools. Many missions will involve fighting, infiltrating, snitching, chasing or escape. This game is very interesting and will provide you with hours of fun.
