Be prepared to be scared when you watch 'The Haunting.' Liam Neeson stars as Dr. David Marrow, who invites a group of people who suffer from insomnia to Hill House, an out of the way mansion. They are to take part in what they think is an insomnia study, but things do not go quite as they had expected . The doctor is not interested in studying insomnia patients, instead he is really doing a study on fear and is planning to scare the group in various ways. The guests, as well as the doctor, end up terrified when they learn that the mansion is actually haunted by an evil spirit.

The Haunting
Excellent remake. Recommend this one. Anything with Catherine Zeta Jones in it is good. This one is a good example of why they make movies,ie: to entertain us, the average movie goers not for critics approval or to win an academy awards. Just give us a good story brought to life on the big screen that is fun to watch. This is an almost scary, great fun romp with the lovely Miss Jones adding sexy to a very cool set. The directors vision is brought to the screen in the form of great settings, scene movement,flash backs with special effects, good actors and a movie that does not drag or have dry spots. The prop/set, special effects departments hit a home run with the computerized animation, lighting, carvings, statues, atrium/green house, and carousel room. I especially enjoyed the ... Excellent buildup with surprise, shock and awe. As with all movies like this one, you must watch on a cold raining night in a darken room with popcorn, your choice of drinks snuggling with your mate. You should let your imagination put you in there experiencing the action. Recommend to all over 16.

An Extension Of Shirley Jackson's " That Haunting Of Hill House".
I truly enjoyed the movie, and probably would like the book even more. What I loved is that this re make told us additional information that we didn't get in the first movie. It enlightened the viewer. If you are a fan of the Haunting Of Hill House, then you MUST see this movie. You are sure to have an Ah Ha! moment. Having said that, there is some negatives. The set was astounding. Hill house is super spooky but there are too many styles of architecture on the interior sets. Huge Stone Birds and Sheep in the main hall and stairway? It would have better to have done it all in Victorian style of Goth. Over all a big A+I truly enjoyed the movie, and probably would like the book even more. What I loved is that this re make told us additional information that we didn't get in the first movie. It enlightened the viewer. Not the Book, by any means.
The DVD is of good quality so no complaints there. The actors are good, and the production values very very high. The major thing lacking in this movie is good writing. The whole direction of the movie is called character driven. it is not. It's driven more by the special effects and the over the top attention to the props. One wishes to have been given more of a tour of the house and it's decor. Sadly we are left with dead dialogue an a moribund screen play.The DVD is of good quality so no complaints there. The Haunting
Great movie. All star cast, the castle was beautiful yet erie at the same time. Effects were great, story line was easy to follow. We love horror movies and this is a really good addition.
