Fit my needs
It works great. Yes, it’s stuff and I will eventually line it up as discussed in other reviews. But I’m a big ol’ boy with plenty of meat to keep that hat down! IMHO it’s not for delicate drummers (jazz, fusion, funk - you know who you are) because it’s not super fast. I’m a good ol Rick and roll bam bam pounder who isn’t doing paradittles at 260 bpm. I’m older and less flexible than my glory days so I’m using this as my primary hi hat to keep the cymbals more in front of me than a standard stand would allow. It works for my purpose. Amazing product!
Great hi hat control! Bought this to replace my secondary hi hat stand and ended up using for my primary. Super quick response and has adjustable tension control. Good for if you you play more heavy or light footed. Built with heavy duty materials and very felixible cord that can stretch pedal across either side of even a large double bass kit. Recommend for any and all drummers, great alternative to a regular stand and the price can’t be beat.Great hi hat control! Nothing better for the price!
I bought one of these used and was pleasantly surprised. It has a couple of quirks and room for improvement that I'll get to in a bit but let me say what I actually like about it first. First and foremost is the value. At less than $100 its a great deal but at the 40 bucks I paid for it used. It's an INSANE deal! At the time I really wanted the Pearl Eliminator Remote Hat. But I figured for 40 bucks I could try it out and if I having a remote hat in general. I could just upgrade later. Well I'm happy to say that with a little maintenance here about once a year. 3 years later I LOVE it! I like that it actually has a cam system for the drive instead of just pulling directly on the cable. It increases clamping force while reducing effort required to close it. The tension adjustment method of ... I bought one of these used and was pleasantly surprised. At less than $100 its a great deal but at the 40 bucks I paid for it used. It's an INSANE deal! At the time I really wanted the Pearl Eliminator Remote Hat. But I figured for 40 bucks I could try it out and if I having a remote hat in general. I could just upgrade later. Well I'm happy to say that with a little maintenance here about once a year. 3 years later I LOVE it! I like that it actually has a cam system for the drive instead of just pulling directly on the cable. It increases clamping force while reducing effort required to close it. The tension adjustment method of the hat is great too. Its a knob that is easy to turn and access. And the pedal assembly/tower has a fairly narrow profile. So it doesn't get too cumbersome in your pedal line up. Of which I have 4 plus a Cobra Clutch and it fits well. Now for some opportunities on Griffin's part. First. The cable is cheap (obviously duh) However this is easily overcome with a little bit (a solid 2 hours!) of time spent removing the cable and lubricating it with some chain/cable lube. Then its actually almost un-noticable that you're not using an actually Hi-Hat stand with no cable. Also that brings up my next complaint...I'm a diesel mechanic and this thing is NOT quick or easy to take apart. So if you're not good with your hands. Just save up and get a better one because you WILL have to lube the cable every 6-12 months depending on the amount you use it. And as stated above...It is a very time consuming project. And the final complaint is that the cable could be another 1-2 feet longer. Even if they just offered a replacement cable in different lengths that would help. In my setup. I had to move my ride cymbal out of the spot I've been comfortable with for 20+ years because the cable was too short. Not really a huge deal. I'm used to it now of course. But never the less it is something to keep in mind Oh and I know some people would like it to have a small set of legs. This doesn't matter to me as I have all kinds of crazy clamps a nd huge racks that everything gets mounted to. Overall it is a great product for the price and I gave it 4 stars because it deserves every one of those stars. I remember wanting a remoter hat SO BAD when I was a kid. But they were over $500 just for the "stand" and then another $200-$300 just for a half decent set of cymbals to put on it. Today the average remote hat setup will run you only around $300. And of course cymbals are still expensive. But this hat will save you tons of money if you just spend some time lubing the cable and other moving parts.

Cable lubrication made it work like a charm.
First, a little background on my point of view. This is only an initial review, as I have only had this for 1 day. I cannot attest to how this may compare to other Remote Hi Hat setups, as this is the only one I have tried out. Also, I am only in my fourth year of playing, so more experienced drummers may have a different assessment. Build Quality: I would rate it at 8.75 out of 10. The unit appears to be quite solid throughout except for the lower cymbal support, which is only glued down with a small dab. Keep in mind that this should not affect the functionality. The other issue I found with this lower cymbal support is, instead of a standard felt ring for the lower hat to rest upon, there are 3 rubber pads. These rubber pads do slightly affect the sustain. It would not be difficult to convert to it back to felt, if one wanted to. Besides those little things, the entire thing feels very substantial and solid. It features a two double-chain drives on the pedal that ride on a plastic half-wheel. Comparatively, my bass pedal's half-wheel is metal with a plastic channel for the chains to pivot upon. Functionality: Upon my first inspection, I was disappointed at how sluggish the cable responded to a push and/or release of the pedal. It would barely lift the top cymbal, and only after increasing the spring tension to the maximum would it lift the top hat and this made it even more sluggish. But, after spaying some silicone lubricant on each end of the cable and other the moving parts all while repeatedly depressing the pedal, it moves freely and effortlessly, lifting the top hat with ease. That being said, now that it is lubricated, it performs flawlessly, reacting just as good as a standard hat stand. As a matter of fact, the user manual specifically states that looping the cable in a circle will cause it to be sluggish, and even after looping the cable, it works flawlessly for all hi hat dynamics. I am very impressed with this unit so far. As long as I don't need to constantly re-lubricate it, I will consider it a 5 star. Being able to offset my hats 6 inches from the pedal is very comfortable and a welcome advantage. Conclusion: If you aren't put-off by needing to spend 10 minutes getting this Remote Hi-Hat to function properly, it is indeed a great addition to any drum kit. For less than a $100.00 with shipping, its really hard to beat. As I wrote earlier, although I have not tried other Remote Hi Hat stands, when comparing prices, this Griffin Remote Hi Hat stand costs 70% less than the other brands I considered. When I could save $240.00 and still get a decent piece of hardware, I thought I'd give this unknown brand, Griffin, a shot. Only time will tell if it is a durable stand, but my first impression is, that it should last.

Good deal, looks like it should hold up well. However, I can't find any manual or instructions on.line (so far) to see if the cable can be released from one end or the other to facilitate packing and cartage. Hopefully, it's not a problem. It is certainly not obvious from just looking at it. But great Pedal design !
