    This lens would be hard to beat for image quality especially for the price

    Lovely 'nifty fifty' lens, very light to carry around, good to use in low light situations, delivers a very good clear, sharp image. Excellent lens for the price. A little care is needed to ensure no flare gets into lens as the lens hood is practically non existent. I considered buying a new Sony 1.4mm lens but thought I would try the Minolta lens out first as there were several good write ups about it, I am very pleased with my decision and will stick with the Minolta, a great addition to my present lenses for my Sony A700.

    Bright, sharp, fast and cheap!!

    I'm very happy with this lens. It's very sharp, with a nice bokeh and a fast focus. All these with a price tag of under 100 euros. It's bright, small in size and has a minimum focus of 0.45 meters. You should not buy this lens if you want to shoot in close quarters (unless you already possess a wider lens and you need this for portraits but still it's not very convenient). Also the focus ring is a bit small and needs some time to get used to it. It's handy in low light situations were the AF can not lock to a subject. With the Sony A55 having a crop factor of x1.5 this lens behaves like a 75mm. It's ability to shoot in low light is good (not as good as the f/1.4 though) and considering the price tag it's an excellent buy!!

    Good old school minolta

    Best U can get for that many .Fantastic colours and contrast.It's even better quality than new sony 50/1.8SAM lens.

    fantastic buy, great find on ebay

    fantastic buy, excellent quality especially for pre owned lens. bought this a gift for my husband and he was thrilled with the quality and thought I'd spent a lot more on the lens

    Minolta, definitely

    Having wanted to purchase a Portrait lens I opted for the Minolta because of the price compared to Sony's "own".For portrait photography this lens is simply stunning. Dislikes,none.
