The Old Man Is Still Rockin' All Over The World
If anybody has earned some peace of mind and contentment, it's John Fogerty. After decades of misery and pain after the CCR breakup and legal entanglements, he emerged with some sanity and some great music. All his releases from Centerfield through Revival had much to offer. The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again was the first truly mediocre effort since the aborted Hoodoo LP (Zombie is better than it's given credit for). Just for comparison, make a playlist of cover songs from John's previous albums. This duet album of Fogerty penned songs is better than BRR2, thankfully. At least half of tracks are keepers. The best may be Someday Never Comes with Dawes, the songs shared with Kid Rock, Foo Fighters, and My Morning Jacket are also fine. The two new original songs are both ... The most frustrating track is the title song, which begins and ends with excellent work from Fogerty and Miranda Lambert on vocals. In between is a totally inappropriate guitar solo from Tom Morello that kills the plaintive mood the singers had created. Hod Rod Hear with Brad Paisley and Fogerty trading licks was the right song to rock out on. There's enough good music here to hope there's a second volume, and there's more than enough great Fogerty songs that didn't get covered this time.

Combining timeless lyrics, classic rock riffs with today's popular artists (not to mention Lodi with his sons... Fogerty is a troubadour storyteller that continues to meet new audiences (Mystic Highway) and refresh favorites from the past.
