Very Happy ... NOW ; )
So, when I went to install the tailgate damper on my used Ram 2500 (2013), *on the Driver's side of the truck as instructed, to my surprise, I found that a similar threaded device had already been installed in the tailgate hole. Hmmm, Great I thought. One less step for the install. That is, Until I found that the threads were Stripped !? AT that point I did a bit of research and found that the folks at DeeZee do NOT recommend installing their 'Assist Shock' on the Right Hand end of the tailgate. Unsure why, I called and was advised that it's because that end of the tailgate is Removable, making it likely that the dampening action might cause the tailgate to disengage from that hinge. The solution turned out to be simple. I just needed to install a tailgate lock, which I did right away. ... So, when I went to install the tailgate damper on my used Ram 2500 (2013), *on the Driver's side of the truck as instructed, to my surprise, I found that a similar threaded device had already been installed in the tailgate hole. AT that point I did a bit of research and found that the folks at DeeZee do NOT recommend installing their 'Assist Shock' on the Right Hand end of the tailgate. Unsure why, I called and was advised that it's because that end of the tailgate is Removable, making it likely that the dampening action might cause the tailgate to disengage from that hinge. The solution turned out to be simple. I just needed to install a tailgate lock, which I did right away. That simple 'band type' device not only secured the tailgate against theft, but it also made it possible for me to install that dampening strut on the right side (passenger side) of the tailgate. Both installation holes seemed to be identically located and the install went very well. Dampening action makes for an easy, one-handed opening of that large tailgate, which is a real convenience ! I am very happy with the end result and am anticipating good service from this set-up. !

Great product highly reccomend
Tailgate assist was easy install took 10 minutes. Works great wish done this years ago. Open my truck tailgate with one hand no worries about dropping tailgate. It's a must have. I would reccomend this to all my friends and family. Buying one for my son.

Easy, Fast, and Works Great.
My son has a factory tailgate assist on his truck. After I installed mine, you can't tell the difference. It was easy to install, and only took a little time. I know it has to protect the camera that is installed in my tailgate. I would recommend it to anyone with a heavy tailgate with a rearview camera.

Piece Of Garbage!
I installed this unit following the manufacturers instructions to the letter. I even watched several YouTube videos of the install. In spite of all this, the factory tailgate cable would become bound up , slipping behind the DeeZee shock unit. This caused the tailgate to become bound up halfway down, as the cable was stuck behind the damper. This actually popped the damper off the ball mount sometimes. I resorted to having to close my tailgate with one hand while guiding the cable to avoid binding with the other hand. The final straw game with the arrival of Florida’s 90 plus degree weather. The temperatures thinned the fluid in the damper to the point that it was too thin to slow the drop of the tailgate ! Imagine my surprise when I thought the tailgate would drop in a controlled manner ... I installed this unit following the manufacturers instructions to the letter. I finally took this piece of garbage off of my truck, and to my shock, I’d forgotten just how well the factory tailgate setup worked!! No more binding on the way up or down!! Now, I just need to buy a new cable for the drivers side to replace the perfectly good cable that was chewed up thanks to the wonderful DEEZEE tailgate assist! Save yourself the money and aggravation! Save yourself from getting hurt when the temperatures climb and this isn’t up to the task! Don’t buy this now, thank me later!

Great redesigned product installed 15 mitues
This is a new and redesign tailgate assist. It's more heavy duty and the tailgate cable tuck in better when you open and close the tailgate. Very easy to install (15 minutes) and great quality. Definitely purchased again in the future. (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew cab)
