Captain Horatio Hornblower
I bought this movie because I love and own all of the BBC's mini series of Horatio Hornblower starring Ioan Grufford. After watching Master and Commander with Russell Crowe, I was very interested in this genre of movies. After doing some research, I discovered the Horatio Hornblower series that was actually written about 20 years before the Master & Commander series. I fell in love with the story, the actors and the time period. I throughly enjoyed watching and re-watching those, and then I heard about this older version. I also love vintage movies, so I thought, "why not?" I will admit, that the movie is good, but a bit cliche for me. I enjoyed a bit of a different story line and seeing some of my favorite characters portrayed again on screen. However, I confess ... However, I confess that it took me about 3 seperate sittings to finally watch the entire movie. I don't believe it was that long, but it definitely dragged on in places for me. While the colors and style of the movie is so vintage perfect, the battle scenes are lacking in the modern detail. If you are a Horatio Hornblower fan you must own this, but it will likely not replace the BBC series as your favorite. You've got to admit that Gregory Peck is certainly handsome, no?

It's the name of the book and quite descriptive
A very good film based on CS Forester's three in one volume, Captain Horatio Hornblower. The film very likely did the best it could combining three volumes into a 1:57 minute film

C.S. Forrester's great hero brought vividly to life by the great Gregory Peck the story sticks generally to the novels on which it was based Forrester did fine work adapting his books to the screen great acting on the part of a marvelous cast makes this a joy to watch well worth your time and money

Great Epic sea movie
I watched this movie when it came on TV it is an amazing movie to watch. It has phenomenal actors and actresses Gregory Peck and Virginia Mayo are great actors and actresses of their time. The movie is gripping fascinating historical and just a thrill to watch.
