FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS is a whirlwind of a movie, a wacky, drug-laden story backed by a fist-pumping rock & roll soundtrack featuring everything from Wayne Newton and Tom Jones to Combustible Edison and Dead Kennedys. Journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) heads to Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, bringing along his Samoan lawyer, Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro), in this furious adaptation of the book by Hunter S. Thompson. It is 1971, and Duke and Gonzo are on their way to Sin City with a frightened hitchhiker (a nearly unrecognizable Tobey Maguire) and a trunkful of drugs, which they ingest nonstop. Depp is terrific as Duke, Thompson's alter ego, and Del Toro is a riot as the crazy lawyer. To perfect his Thompsonian performance, Depp spent a lot of time with the good doctor, and it paid off in a film that captures the frenetic pace of the counterculture novel. Director Terry Gilliam, a master of complex, bizarre visual imagery, has a field day interpreting the drug-hazed world in which Duke and Gonzo reside. An all-star cast chimes in with wonderfully offbeat bit parts, including Harry Dean Stanton, Gilliam regular Katherine Helmond, Flea, Cameron Diaz, Ellen Barkin, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey, Lyle Lovett, and others.

    Lets get down to brass tacks - how much for the ape?

    You approach the turnstiles and know that when you get there, you have to give the man two dollars or he won't let you inside... but when you get there, everything goes wrong. Some angry Rotarian shoves you and you think: What's happening here? What's going on? Ether is the perfect drug for Las Vegas. In this town they love a drunk. Fresh meat. So they put us through the turnstiles and turned us loose inside.

    Fear and Loathing with Terry Gillam and Johnny Depp

    Once upon a decade, Hunter Thompson wrote a book called Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a story about two travelers going on a drive to cover a motorcycle race while having a suitcase of drugs in the trunk. 27 years after its publication, the movie adaptation was released. And boy was it an underrated doozy at the time of its release! Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro as Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo. Cameos from (but not limited to) Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Ellen Barkin, Gary Busey, Harry Dean Stanton, Mark Harmon, and Tobey Maguire abounding when you least expect them to. A script in kinship with the original story. The trippy visuals. The characters Raoul and Dr. Gonzo meet on the journey. Hell, Terry Gilliam of Monty Python directed this film.     scarce objects on E-bay

    I purchased the movie FEAR @ LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS so time back off E-bay, Excellent movie, but hard to find elsewhere. Love the movie but accidentally bought VHS. I would rather have the DVD for longevity. I am afraid that as much as I play it I'm going to wear it out. I had been a member of both BMG and Columbia House DVD Clubs and could not find this classic Johnny Dep movie at either place, so when I saw it on E-Bay I had to order it. No regrets,Thank You.

    To weird to live , to rare to die.

    I love this movie!! It takes you along on quite a trip... in two different senses!! One of Johnny Depps best performances by far!!!I haven't laughed this hard at many movies.
