Mega Man Battle Network turns the popular platform shooter franchise on its head by introducing RPG elements, strategic battles, and Pokémon-style searches for (and link cable-trading of) "battle chips." Players take the role of a young hacker named Lan who enters cyberspace under the guise of "Mega Man.EXE" to battle crime. "Mega Man.EXE" is the codename of Lan's personal digital assistant, which can make phone calls, send and receive emails, keep a calendar, store data, shop on the web, and check news from around the world. While in the real world, Lan can talk to people (and observe objects) to gather information, and can enter the cyber world by "jacking-in" to the PC in his room (or in several other locations). While "online," Lan takes the familiar form of the Blue Bomber himself to battle dangerous computer virus characters in real time on scrolling, isometrically-viewed grids. This is also where he can purchase (or find or win in battles) chips and power-ups (such as armor and rapid fire shots). Battle chips are used for such purposes as changing the standard blaster to a sword, attacking enemies, and healing your character. Designed specifically as a handheld game, this release introduces Mega Man to the 32-bit power of the Game Boy Advance. With patience, skill, and a little luck, Lan can collect all 175 Battle Chips and perhaps restore peace to virtual space once and for all.

The most basic of the series. Very simple but gets better in future games.
Battle Network was a completely new concept that MegaMan has ever seen before and met with lots of hesitant fans and skeptics who couldn't believe how MegaMan jumped from 2D side-scrolling action to an RPG. This one game (series) has split MegaMan's fanbase for better or worse and was the beginning of a trend MegaMan games would face as the franchise would move into many different types of playstyles. This game is easy, probably the easiest in the series. The there are light RPG elements in it and its pretty addicting to play once you understand how to play. In every battle you win you get money or a battle chip and the field consists of 2 3x3 squares. You on the left and opponent's on the right. You battle with a folder of 30 battles chips that you bring before battle. Every chip has a ... You battle with a folder of 30 battles chips that you bring before battle. Every chip has a code which is a letter A-Z. At once you can select all chips that are the same name, or you can choose all chips with the same code letter. So you can bring say 3MiniBombs (regardless of code since they are all of the same name) or you can bring 1 MiniBomb, 1 Sword, 1 ShotGun since they all have the same letter code instead. Pretty simple. Build your folder with these in mind and you can make some simple or elaborate combos. The enemies are all bosses from the Classic series like QuickMan with some originals to the series only like NumberMan. Following the adventures of a 10 year old 5th grader and his internet navigator MegaMan.EXE, they help others and fight netcrime since they are so good at netbattling. Eventually they get wrapped up in a huge plot by World Three (WWW) to destroy the world and they take it upon themselves to try stopping it. Spoiler alert they do. Similar to how Pokemon games star a kid player who takes down criminal organizations with their pokemon, Battle Network was meant more for kids than any other audience. Its a pretty easy game overall but not too many surprises and game features. There is netplay if you have a friend who has the game and the 2 of you can trade battle chips and battle each other as well. There are RPG elements in that you grind for money and battlechips and can buy MegaMan upgrades for his Buster in 3 stats. Power, Rapid, and Charge. The better the stats the more damage, faster his rapidfire and charge becomes. Pretty simple stuff. Since it is the first game in the series. Once you get some good chips and a decent folder the game may become boring but all the networks (dungeons) you explore have interesting gimmicks and puzzles to solve at least, but even those could be too easy. Save for one stage near the end of the game where you can't see the walkway. The game is nice but after playing the future games, this one becomes less and less fun because it doesn't have many of the new future features like style changes or soul unisons and other things. Its still a fun game and if you aren't sure about about the series then you should play this one and the 2nd one to get a feel for em. But nonetheless, this game was enjoyable still and was the start of the series to come.

Since the old Nintendo days Mega Man has always been a side scrolling, run and gun adventure. With this new incarnation things have changed. Now Mega Man is a program that your main character controls in an RPG like adventure. Graphics - 7/10 While the graphics out of battle are kind of bland and generic the animations in battle are smooth and feel like Mega Man should. Gameplay - 8/10 This is where the game shines. Your main character must jack into different internet ports all over the world map to take control of Mega Man. Once inside the net Mega Man battle creatures on a grid like system using a series of card like commands. What is really great is that you can stack the same cards together to create massive damage. Overall - 7/10 For anyone looking to play a unique RPG that really stands apart from others I suggest picking up a copy of this game. It is fun and can be quite addictive when you are trying to figure out what moves to use where.

It's a very good game and great for new gamers to play if they want play.
A yes battle network a series that brought megaman to the RPG styles was one of every gamer favorite GBA games. I like how the story takes place in the future in the year 2000 that brought the atmosphere to today it was and neat. I speacialy like how you can jack into objects just find upgrades and money in order to stop evil genus wily.

Fantastic and simple-to-play action RPG.
The premise and gameplay are original, story is great and the strategy aspect is addictive. One of the best GBA games.
