2010 release, the Grammy-winning guitarist's first studio album in seven years. On Emotion & Commotion, Jeff Beck returns with an eclectic mix of tracks that find the guitar virtuoso accompanied by a handpicked cast of talented musicians, as well as several songs accompanied by a 64-piece orchestra. Beck recorded the album late last year at Sarm Studio's in London with award-winning producers Steve Lipson and Trevor Horn. To create the album's diverse sound, Beck used a number of musicians, including appearances by members of his current band - drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, bassist Tal Wilkenfeld and keyboardist Jason Rebello. The album also includes contributions from a trio of singers: Imelda May ("Lilac Wine"), Olivia Safe ("Elegy for Dunkirk") and Grammy -winner Joss Stone ("I Put a Spell on You" and "There's No Other Me").

Jeff Beck and company are in great form.
It's no secret that Jeff Beck is a musician's musician. With Mr Beck it's never been about anything except making great music. I own everthing that he's released in his long career. I could listen to Truth, Blow by blow and Guitar Shop in particular again and again. I think that Emotion and Commotion can be added to that short list of the best Beck albums. JB has had a who's who of monster drummers over the years, Cozy Powell, Carmine Appice, Terry Bozzio etc... Vincent Colaiuta teaming up with Jeff is a natural. I think that bassist Tal Wilkenfeld was the big surprise when she started playing with these chops monsters. She proved at the Crossroads festival that she could give as good as she could take. There are not a lot bassists that are up to standing toe to ... It's no secret that Jeff Beck is a musician's musician. With Mr Beck it's never been about anything except making great music. I'm so happy for this studio recording to seal her deal as one of JB's great alumni. Lest I forget to mention Jason Rebello. His keyboard work is the glue that holds it all together. Which brings us to the tracks themselves. Nessun Dorma is a standout instrumental, it gives the players a chance to shine while supporting the song. I believe that it won a Grammy. Somewhere over the Rainbow is a great choice for Mr Beck's soaring guitar. It's sort of amazing that he didn't cover this years ago. Joss Stone and Imelda May both make guest appearences on vocals for a couple of tracks. Joss does a great reading of Screaming Jay Hawkins' tune, "I put a spell on you". Imelda Mays unique voice work great on "Lilac Wine". Jeff always makes great music for musicians. Every once in a while he releases a classic that non musicians can listen to and appreciate. Emotion and Commotion is destined to be seen as one of these classics.

Great mix strong effort
Great mix of Jeff Beck with fantastic fellow musicians. Some of his most beautiful work along with excellent rock and blues.

beautiful melodies abound
This is Jeff Beck at his most melodic in many years. A lot of this album has a symphony orchestra accompanying Jeff...and it really REALLY works like you wouldn't believe! Jeff eschews rapid fire jazz licks for gorgeous haunting melodies throughout this album, and yet there's some really heavy rock here too that throbs and sizzles, also with deliberate melodic structure that just takes you away. I swear, the music is so moving that tears came to my eyes several times. Once again Jeff Beck has proven that he's the most consistently brilliant guitarist alive.This is Jeff Beck at his most melodic in many years. I bought it for the "Emotion", others might prefer the "Commotion".
Beck is incomparable. Several fabulous tracks.
