À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Having originally aired in 1972, NEW ZOO REVUE has regained much of its original audience thanks to a wave of TV-based nostalgia. Although conceived as a children's show, the core audience largely consists of adults who either saw the show first time out, or have heard about it through its cult word-of-mouth reputation. NEW ZOO REVUE has two human hosts, Doug and Emily, who work alongside a variety of creatures, including Charlie The Owl, Henrietta Hippo, and Freddie The Frog. The basic premise of each episode was to teach kids simple lessons in life, but the real appeal lies in the totally bizarre visuals that unfold on screen. Doug sings horrendously off-key songs and wears some increasingly strange outfits, while the animals go through some very odd dance routines. The makers clearly had a lot of fun constructing the show, and as the original audience has grown older, many of them have returned to the show wondering what on earth it was they saw all those years ago! The sense of fun is infectious, however, and this is a great example of early children's programming.

  • OH YOu Got To REmember the Show

What spawned this truly odd syndicated, non-ETV show about two humans living in a neighborhood with a frog in a sweater, an owl and a suh-thuhn Hippopotamus? Two years after Sesame Street began, New Zoo Revue (why that title? What does it mean?) offered no educational value, just morals and lessons and songs at the drop of a hat. Today, it watches more for Doug and Emmy Jo's fashions than for anything else the show might do. Even more astonishing is to learn that she married him and they are STILL married! Doug is a truly odd and peculiar looking fellow. In fact, if it hadn't been for Doug and Emmy Jo, there really wouldn't be alot to pinpoint the show as being from the early seventies. I havent watched all of it, havent watched more than a few episodes, but I wouldnt be surprised if ...

  • Nostalgic Children's Show Avaliable Once Again!

There were many a children's show for me when I was growing up. There was one show in particular that I had a fondness for, involving a hippo, a frog, and an owl. I knew the show was called New Zoo Revue because I knew the song. To my surprise, I discovered the series on DVD for offer on ebay, and thought it would be nice for my nephew to experience a show that I grew up with. The show isn't frightening to children, as they are in the style of Barney (costumed characters). The songs are educational and a bit corny, but this was made in the 70's, right? It makes me happy to see many of the old 70's shows making a comeback of sorts, seeing as most of the programming on today is garbage. In case you are wondering.....Freddy the frog, Henrietta Hippo and Charley the owl, right? I can't ...

  • Excellent quality DVD's of a great show

I watched this show when it was first on because I had a crush on Emmy Jo. I found out later that all the other men at my job had a crush on her too. Admittedly, the reason I bought this set was to see her again, but I realize now what a great show it really was for kids. Each show has a topic, making it easy to pick out just the right episode for a particular situation. Also, the quality is EXCELLENT! Another viewer did not like the quality, but my set is flawless. In case you're wondering, Doug and Emily are still married and run their own production company. I saw a recent photograph of them. Doug still looks like Doug. Emily is still beautiful.

  • NEW ZOO REVUE

OH MY GOSH! I remember the New Zoo Revue, I have still an original 33 record! When I was growing up I used to have to watch this show every morning while getting ready for school and my mother yelling at me that she was going to turn off the television. I remember relating and feeling like freddie the frog,(it's not easy being green ya know!) Great learning tool for kids, all kids of all ages. I even still remember the opening song to the show. Wow!those sure were the good ol' days. Sure wish I had an ol' record player so I could play all my records from when I was a kid!

  • Still as relevant today as it was when I was a kid.

This was my absolute favorite show when I was a kid. I was so excited when I found out that I could order a whole season on DVD!...for my grandchildren of course ;) My only fear was that it wouldn't be as good as I remembered, you know how it can be when you watch an old show/movie you loved as a child and end up wondering what were you thinking? Well, that didn't happen here! Even with the 70's clothes it didn't really feel 'out of it's time'. Content and subject matter are still relevant today. Oh, and just so you know, my picky 4 1/2 year old granddaughter enjoys the shows and my 21 month old grandson boogies down to the theme song!
