Not "Looking For Mr. Goodbar", But Looking For Mr. Mojo Risin's L'America
To quote the 2nd stanza of the 6th L.A. Woman song, "L'America", that opens side 2 of the LP: "C'mon people, don't ya look so down You know the rain man's comin' ta town Change the weather, change your luck And then he'll teach ya how ta...find yourself L'America" What you won't find on this DVD is the standout verse "L'America", the only act of omission from this otherwise outstanding production, and perhaps the Jim Morrison penned drug anthem with the most intriguing backstory - it was expressly written for the soundtrack of director Michelangelo Antonioni's psychedelic 1970 film "Zabriskie Point", that featured The Doors' contemporaries Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, The ... When Antonioni dropped in at The Doors' Santa Monica Blvd. office/rehearsal suite (that later became the recording studio for the album), he was blown away by their demo of the song, literally, complaining it was too loud, and rejected it out-of-hand. One might compare his short-sighted critique to be in the same vein as former Doors producer Paul Rothchild, who excused himself during the later L.A. Woman rehearsals due to his lack of enthusiasm for the material. Having watched "Zabriskie Point" only once, this writer's opinion is the film would have been vastly improved by the addition of "L'America", especially if it opened with that song accompanying the arrival of seedy drug dealers. "Friendly strangers came to town All the people put them down But, the women loved their ways Come again some other day Like the gentle rain Like the gentle rain that falls I took a trip down to L'America To trade some beads for a pint of gold I took a trip down to L'America To trade some beads for a pint of gold L'America, L'America, L'America L'America, L'America, L'America L'America" At least this DVD is better than its predecessor in this genre, The Doors, 2008 Classic Albums DVD story of their eponymous album (by the same Eagle Rock Entertainment), that omitted the songs "Twentieth Century Fox", "I Looked At You", and "Take It As It Comes". Plus, this DVD offers better sound options, dts & Dolby Surround 5.1, as well as the basic Dolby Digital Stereo.

The "Good-bye" sessions of Morrison with The Doors was a success!
The story of the The Doors last record with Jim Morrison before he left for Paris, is a fascinating account of how the group went back to their roots and turned out a masterpiece. Not only were the original session dull and uninspiring that producer Paul Rothschild left the studio sessions! When the producers and band members decided to make the recording in their rehearsal space, something magical manifested and the sessions took off to outer space!The story of the The Doors last record with Jim Morrison before he left for Paris, is a fascinating account of how the group went back to their roots and turned out a masterpiece. Not only were the original session dull and uninspiring that producer Paul Rothschild left the studio sessions! When the producers and band members decided to make the recording in their rehearsal space, something magical manifested and the sessions took off to outer space!
