Great older camera
Great camera that you can travel with and not have to worry about it being stolen. At 3.2 Megapixel's you won't have problems emailing photos and unless your planning on making posters 3.2 is adequate. It uses AA batteries so if your in a pinch you can get batteries from anywhere. The optics are glass and it has a true 10x optical zoom. If your looking for a cheap used camera then this is for you. Don't spend more than about $50.00 bucks on one and make sure the optics, view screen and the battery compartment cover are still in good shape. In regards to the battery compartment cover they tend to break and when they do there is not much you can do to fix it unless maybe you don't mind using duct tape. Wonderful point & shoot camera for indoor and outdoor photography
This is my second Olympus C-740. My first one was a faithful companion for 15 years until it finally gave up the ghost. It was such a versatile camera that I just had to get another. The picture quality is astonishing, especially in low light conditions, and even without the flash. This is my go-to camera for taking formal portraits, especially in dim lighting. It is the only point-and-shoot camera I have ever owned that take good "moon shots" and outdoor photography at night. It has an excellent zoom function. The only drawback is the delay between snapping the shutter button and the actual photo (while the light meter does its thing). However, if you partially depress the shutter button to get the light meter adjusted, then aim and fire, the operation goes much faster. This ... This is my second Olympus C-740. This purchase was a replacement (Duracell battery leaked and ruined it) for the same camera I have had for the past 10 years. I was looking specifically for this model. I like the zoom, ability to change ISO and low light pictures without flash- it has a flip up flash also. It is simple to use having both a view finder and a screen. It is point and shoot with a 10x optical zoom, using a set of 4 AA batteries. I have taken it all over the world, so getting batteries is never a problem. My other cameras also use the xD card so I did not want a new model. My only negative: need to keep an extra set of 4 batteries with you as batteries need to be replaced after about 150 - 200 photos.The reviews mention a problem with the battery cover, I have not seen this problem. One of the best digital cameras you'll find under $100, fantastic zoom lens
I agree with other reviewers here. This is one of the best kept secrets in digital cameras. The high quality 10x optical zoom lens is the heart of the system and allows great depth-of-field shots with the autofocus on. Great for candid shots because you can be far enough away that the subject doesn't realize his/her picture is being taken. I use a lens tube with a clear protector over the end, so it's a bulky camera since the tube is basically like having the lens fully extended all the time - but that also provices a stable handle for zoom shots to avoid blur. This is my second 740. I paid over $400 for the first one and it was stolen last year. This is an incredible price for a camera of this quality.
