Good Southern Rock
Gone are the days of tunes like "Gator Country" or "Flirtin' With Disaster" but the newest Molly Hatchet still carries the same Southern Rock feel that we all have come to love about this great band. The theme of justice and vengeance run deep through this latest release, the musicianship is top notch like always but the vocals and some of the lyrics are a bit forced at times. I really enjoy the foot stompin', rowdy songs much better than the ballads on this cd but that just may be a matter of personal taste. One real issue for me is that whoever took care of the production of the back jacket really dropped the ball at Steamhammer Records because it actually has typo-errors on it! Some of the tracks are out of order and their are a couple mis-spelled words on it too. But the music ... Pure 100% genuine southern style Hard Rock!
Molly Hatchet clearly transitions into the pure kick-ass Hard Rock territory as the 2nd millennium goes on. The country motives are practically gone, (save for the lyrics of course), and some serious full-on pedal-to-the-metal all-american hard rocking is going on in this album. Absolutely. Ain't no grain 'o doubt about it! They experimented with many cool riffs and musical structures - all to a great effect, and the solos went up the technical scale more than several notches indeed, with some of those in the final tracks that are just killer! The album feels like a well-oiled rock machine, it sounds perfectly arranged, strong, skillful and accomplished with a great feel. The bluesy inserts are carefully woven into the songs, even with some occasional keyboard passages to sway ... I loved it immediately, and i am a total Molly Hatchet fan now! I'd go to their concerts with a southern confederate flag, LOL. I damn surely would. They are just great. Would i recommend it to a friend? HELL YEAH!!! And to anyone showing interest in rock/blues-rock/hard-rock and traditional Heavy Metal (not to mention southern rock of course).
