VENGEANCE is the first movie in director Chanwook Park's revenge trilogy, which also includes OLDBOY and SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE. Ha-kyun Shin stars as Ryu, a young deaf mute with green hair and a job at a smelting factory. His ailing sister (Ji-Eun Lim) is in dire need of a kidney, and when the doctors cannot find a suitable match, Ryu, who has just been laid off, takes his severance pay and all his savings to a shady black-market organization that will take out his kidney so his sister can use it. But he is tricked, and soon convinced by his anarchist girlfriend, Youngmi (Doo-na Bae), to kidnap the four-year-old daughter (Bo-bae Han) of factory president Park (Kang-ho Song) in order to get enough money to pay for his sister's legitimate transplant. But things don't go as planned, leading to gripping, violent, and bloody battles as both Ryu and Park seek to gain vengeance for the wrongs done to their families. Director Park has taken great care to develop strong, believable characters who are driven by heartbreak to commit acts they never dreamed they'd be capable of in this emotionally wrenching drama.

This review is actually about the movie.....c'mon.....
This movie is pure revenge and nothing good comes out of it. In that way you would think the movie is one big depressing mess. I don't think so. It did what it was suppose to do and it did it very originaly. The movie skips through scenes rather quickly and at times its hard to keep up with. However after the movie was over I decided that this certain approach was pretty perfect and the real reason for my confusion was the culture difference. All in all the movie was pretty amazing cinematically (something expected after seeing Oldboy), had an awesome cast and an interesting and unexpected story. It is a downer, like I said, no one wins. Another great by Chan Wook Park
Great for fans of the movie Oldboy (which is like a better, more realistic version of Kill Bill). Mr. Vengeance isn't quite as masterful as Oldboy, but it still contains great scenes of violence that are very suspenseful. Story and cinematography are also great.

Masterfully directed, unique revenge thriller.
Chan Wook Park forces us to consider a world where good intentions go awry, decent people do bad things, and fate deals cruel cards. But even at its darkest moments, "Sympathy" finds surprising and heartbreaking shreds of humanity.

The best way to describe it is as the work of an artist -- director Chanwook Park -- who possesses both a conscience and a burning desire to use images to tell stories
