MILLENNIUM begins as what appears to be a gritty and gruesome crime investigation series, flirting with occult serial killers in the tradition of SEVEN. As the series moves into the tail end of it first season, however, its supernatural depth begins to unfold. Phenomenally gifted forensic profiler Frank Black (Henriksen) discovers the unnerving religious zealotry of his new employers, the Millenium Group, and encounters enemies such as an alleged Russian antichrist responsible for Chernobyl. What follows is a rather intense journey involving conspiracy and personal tragedy as wounded family man Black navigates a vibrantly complex cast of cops, special agents, and mysterious scientists. Although a bit weightier than its counterpart, MILLENNIUM shares many tonal similarities with THE X-FILES, including its hybrid episodic-serialized format. Featured here are all three seasons of MILLENNIUM, as well as the unofficial series finale that aired the following season as a crossover episode on THE X-FILES.

GREAT show for fans of X-Files, criminal profiling, and crime dramas.
I was a fan of this show when it was new in the late 1990s as well as its companion show, the X-Files. I have been rewatching X-Files on Netflix but Millennium never became available so I was excited to pick it up on DVD. The pilot and majority of the first season are as jarring now as they were when they were new. Having seen them new, I remembered being taken aback that such a thing was on TV at the time. Truth be known, some of these would still be shocking even on modern TV. Overall, the series holds up much, much better than the X-Files. Like the X-Files, the show had an underlying conspiratorial paranoia. Unlike the X-Files, it never ran rampant and took over the entire scope of the show. This show contains some of, if not THE, best writing of its time, allowing it to stand up still today. Don't be misled, there are occasional missteps and some threads that probably deserved better follow up but in the bigger picture, it is very well done. The acting is believable with Lance Henriksen taking point in a role and project that, as I recall, he had misgivings about initially. His character is criminal profiler from the FBI who is determined but haunted. Today, I recognize it as being most likely PTSD but regardless of its nature in reality, Mr. Henriksen brings an incredible depth and reality to the character. It is a genuine shame the series didn't make it longer. I am left to guess that I only watched the final season in a hap-hazard manner during its first run as I didn't recall most of the stories and I really didn't remember the ending at all. It technically wrapped the series up but was still open enough for a revival that I would love to see happen.

One of the greatest series of all time!
Millennium is well written, and the characters are all well rounded. Chris Carter is one of the finest writers, and it shows here on this series. If you like deep dark secrets, suspense, trying too figure out if certain characters are for the good of mankind, or for themselves, I think you will love this. I have seven more episodes to watch, and I will get to see how everything ends. I give this series 5 stars! Concieved in the late 90s with many peoples' would have such thoughts,would be simliar scenerios would happen or have started.
Great actors and better and even better as you go along . Its really worth it to view the entire series . It ran into the 2000s .

A great suspenseful drama series.
I loved this series when it was first broadcast. I could not believe my luck when I found this new copy. I've always been a fan of dark dramas and this is one of the best.
