Product Information

VOODOO ISLAND: A 1950s B-movie whose charm stems from the absurdity of its plotline and über-campy dialogue, this pseudo-shocker mixes elements of science fiction and horror, with a cast helmed by frightmeister Boris Karloff (FRANKENSTEIN). Phillip Knight is a well-known adventurer who investigates hoaxes and myths for a living. He is hired by Barney Finch (Murvyn Vye, A CONNECTICUT YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT), a wealthy hotel magnate, to investigate tales of a voodoo curse on an island he wants to buy. Once there, however, Knight finds out that this is one supposed hoax that is actually true! Man-eating plants, a voodoo tribe, and zombies will all make an appearance before the hilariously anticlimactic dénouement. Elisha Cook Jr., Rhodes Reason, and Beverly Tyler also co-star.FOUR SKULLS OF JONATHAN DRAKE: Featuring some pretty grisly fare for its time, this low-budget shocker is an original piece of work that doesn't fail to entertain, despite its limited resources. Jonathan Drake (Eduard Franz) returns home to attend the funeral of his brother Kenneth (Paul Cavanagh). But at the service he is dismayed to discover that his brother's head has been stolen! Jonathan quickly realizes that the curse that killed his grandfather and father is still at work--and he himself is most likely the next victim. Lt. Jeff Rowan (Grant Richards) does some sleuthing, aided by Drake's attractive daughter (Valerie French), while an imposing Indian with sewn-shut lips menaces poor Jonathan at night.

  • Sixty minutes of mystery

This films run barely longer than an hour so their isn't a lot of time wasted getting to the crux of the plot. "Voodoo Island"'s best element is Karloff. He is a debunker of myths and the Island..well, the title of the movie is "Voodoo Island"so..the other flick has shrunken heads flying at the Bedeviled Mr Drake, a white Witch Doctor and a curse. They move right along, but probably seem tame by modern tastes

  • A retro look

If your a Karloff fan then you must have VOODOO ISLAND in your collection. Both movies VOODOO ISLAND and FOUR SKULLS are a very good representation of the cultural mind set of the late 50's / early 60's. You know ...when men were men and women were women. Unfortunately Karloff does not appear in FOUR SKULLS, (although it would have made the movie a kajillon times better) it still is a great rainy day movie to enjoy. I feel it was a good purchase for my collection, but any Karloff movie is.

  • Engaging double feature.

    2 very good horror movies.

  • "Voodoo Island",the best carnivorus plant film EVER !

This film features a tropical island [actually one in the Hawaiian chain]which should be named"Watch Where You Walk" because of the array of various species of man eating plants, one of which actually swallows up a young girl from the local tribe. Her playmate could only watch in horror as the last of her friend disappeared[her hand]beneath the lethal leaves.Critics have been quick to point out the staid acting/dialogue delivery as being rather dull or wretched...SO WHAT-the same could be said about the decade from which this comes from, the once in a planet's lifetime, the 1950's.Except for the racism, this decade was almost perfect.Saying parts of"Voodoo Island" are dull,is like saying "Whitman Sampler" bites because of the box design!
