A vacationing insomniac loses the ability to distinguish dreams from reality while traveling the Chilean countryside with a group of adventurers that includes her best friend and an enigmatic American in this downbeat saga. Though it came to the U.S. billed as a thriller or a horror picture, Chilean director Sebastián Silva's MAGIC MAGIC is more aptly described as a dark psychological drama with tense overtones. Juno Temple stars as Alicia -- an emotionally fragile young woman in her early 20s with a murky history. She joins her cousin Sarah (Emily Browning), Sarah's boyfriend Agustín (Agustín Silva), the couple's eccentric friend Brink (Michael Cera) and Agustín's sister Barbara (Catalina Sandino Moreno) for a retreat in the countryside, but from the beginning, things don't go as planned. In the days that follow, more tension erupts between Alicia and the other members of the group, particularly Brink, who displays extreme antisocial tendencies and grows fond of malevolently pushing the girl's buttons. After Sarah returns, all hell threatens to break loose: Alicia is accosted by a local dog that attempts to copulate with her leg; Brink and Agustín play a dangerous game that threatens to cause Alicia grave physical harm, and it becomes increasingly apparent, throughout, that Alicia is now teetering on the brink of a full-scale mental breakdown, which terrifies the others.

Magic Magic...Disappear ..Please
The previews of this movie looked great. Oh how we get sucked in so easily. The actors were decent in their roles. It was the story line and especially the "ending" that made me put this "for sale" as I would never ever view it a second time. Following the story of these young adults was easy enough. Cabin in the woods away from everyone. These young adults interact with one another with one of them slightly off in brain cells. It gets worse as the movie moves on. You get the feeling you just want someone to tell her to "shut the f.... up!!" As bad as this movie is...the ending is one of the worse endings I have ever seen. Because of the ending I ejected the dvd and threw it in my "For Sale" pile in hopes of recouping a few bucks back of what I paid. Sorry for the person who buys it even ... I saw this previewed and thought it was interesting so I bought it, it was hardly what I expected , it is about 5 young people who seem to be just normal teens, with the exception of the little blond from America, the build up sets you up for a most anticipated ending , that just falls short of an answer to the young blonds strange and seemingly deliberate behavior, but at the end - it left me with the question - What ????I saw this previewed and thought it was interesting so I bought it, it was hardly what I expected , it is about 5 young people who seem to be just normal teens, with the exception of the little blond from America, the build up sets you up for a most anticipated ending , that just falls short of an answer to the young blonds strange and seemingly deliberate behavior, but at the end - it left me with the question - What ????

Not really what I expected based on the trailer. It's less of a cheap thriller and more of an unsettling exploration of how those with power and ability casually behave toward those who are powerless, weak or vulnerable and the necessity for the latter to be able to process and deal (if possible). I just watched it but I want to watch it again. The characters are multidimensional and the acting is great. Michael Cera playing someone totally unlike how we're used to seeing him was a big draw for me, and he did it very well. It's unfortunate if people miss out because they can't see past his name to actually watch the movie. It's a bit slower paced than I expected but really worth watching with a great cast and interesting premise.Not really what I expected based on the trailer.
