À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Director Rob Reiner breathes vividly colored cinematic life into William Goldman's THE PRINCESS BRIDE, effectively evoking the wondrous, wide-eyed spirit of the witty 1973 novel. When a sick boy (Fred Savage) receives a visit from his doting grandfather (Peter Falk) who intends to read to him from his favorite book, he's not exactly pleased to be extracted from his world of video games. However, his mood quickly changes as he, along with the viewer, is transported to a place out of time--to Florin, a kingdom in the ultimate imaginary land, complete with dashing heroes, cowardly princes, rhyming giants, shrieking eels, rodents of unusual size, fancy swordfights, and yes...even some kissing. The lovely Buttercup (Robin Wright) learns that "As you wish" really means "I love you" when she falls for her charming farmhand, Westley (Cary Elwes). While trying to seek his fortune, however, Westley disappears at sea, an apparent victim of the Dread Pirate Roberts, who takes no prisoners. A few years later, Buttercup, engaged to the oily Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon), is kidnapped by an oddball trio of rogues--brains, Vizzini (Wallace Shawn); brawn, Fezzik (André the Giant); and sword, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin in a standout performance). As they sail away toward the Cliffs of Insanity, they notice the pursuit of a man in black...and the adventure begins. A clever fairy tale for all ages, THE PRINCESS BRIDE is arguably one of the funniest and most entertaining films of all time.

  • The Princess Bride is a crowd pleaser!

I am 35 years old and first saw this film in the theatre when I was 15. Still to this day, when someone asks me what my favorite movie is I always answer The Princess Bride. It has Romance, Humor, Action, unexpected outcomes, giants, sword play, and it is all done by an all-star cast. Wallace Shawn as Vizzini is fantastic, Mandy Patinkin slips in (nearly unrecognizable now that we see him older and heavier 20 years later) as Inigo the dueling revenge- seeking Spaniard. Andre the Giant is a rhyming fool who anyone would dream of having as a best friend. This was Robin Wright's first film, and she plays the lovely princess role very well. Cary Elwes is superb as Wesley, and Chris Sarandon is The love to hate you/ warthog-faced bafoon prince Humperdink. Christopher Guest plays the ...

  • A Beautiful Fairy Tale + All Kinds of Action & Suspense

No words that I could write would be good enough to tell the rare someone who has not seen this 1987 movie how great it is! It is the fairy tale story of Buttercup (Robin Wright Penn) and Westley (Cary Elwes), who live in the land of Florin in the days when there were castles as well as ordinary people with farms. Buttercup owns the farm, and she delights in belittling Farm Boy Westley, who always answers her every demand with "As you wish," which is translated "I love you." Eventually, Buttercup figures out Westley's love, and they are to be married. But Westley has no money, so he has to leave to make his fortune. Thus, they are separated, and he is reported dead. The movie continues with Buttercup eventually being betrothed to Prince Humperdink (Chris Sarandon); kidnapped by ...

  • Full Review

The Princess Bride is one of the most clever, humorous and touching testimonies to true love ever produced. So why are all the reviews so general and non-descriptive? Methinks ebayers are rushing to pile up mass reviews to achieve top reviewer status. The frame of this movie is a grandfather (Peter Falk) reading a fairy tale to his sick grandchild (Fred Savage). The story line is about true love between a peasant boy (Cary Elwes) and a princess (Robin Wright) and the team of misfits who help reunite the lovers who have been separated by an evil prince (Chris Sarandon) and his sadistic henchman (Christopher Guest). Skits include Wallace Shawn as the wonderfully plotting Vizzini (inconceivable!), the truly dense (mentally and physically) Andre The Giant as Fezzik, Mandy Patinkin as ...

  • One of the best!

OK...If you actually haven't seen this movie yet...GET IT! If you are not yet tired of reading outstanding reviews of this movie yet...stop reading and GET IT! If you are interested in a movie that would be worth watching with your girlfriend...GET IT! If you are interested in a movie that would be worth watching with your wife...GET IT! If you are interested in a movie that would be worth watching with your wife, and now kids...GET IT! This is one of the best movies that is watchable (if that is a word), on soooo many levels. No, it's not going to require much thought, it's not Casablanca or anything along those levels, but if you do not yet have this movie in your collection, there is something seriously wrong with you!!! This movie has some of the best actors/actresses that you ...

  • Suprisingly... great!

I was first introduced to this movie when my friend starting quoting it all the time. She kept pretending to be this character called "Buttercup" and this evil guy called "Prince Humperdui... something" was the bad guy. I didn't really get it, but I decided to make my family rent it one time. The name of the movie sounded cheesy, and the cover of the movie was equally, if not more cheesy. I wasn't really looking forward to watching it. But I'm sure glad I did. This is a really great movie. It is a classic fairy tale, however, its little extra touches are what set it apart. Random things happen that cause the viewer to be intrigued throughout the movie. Funny comebacks and lines are sure to have the viewer give a good chuckle. This movie is not the movie you would believe it to be from the ...
