Developed by the team behind the critically acclaimed games MadWorld, Infinite Space, and Bayonetta, and directed by the creator of the Resident Evil series, Vanquish is a fast-paced 3D shooter set in a space station orbiting near-future Earth. With the world's resources dwindling rapidly, the United States sought to solve its energy woes by building a space station to harness solar power. But a nationalistic military group stages a successful coup in Russia, and subsequently attacks and captures the U.S. space station. The group, known as the Order of the Russia Star, then diverts the station's stored solar energy into a blast wave that demolishes San Francisco. With New York next to be destroyed, the United States springs into action, sending a team of space-based special operations forces and Marines to assist the few remaining soldiers aboard the station. Players join the rescue effort as Sam Gideon, a young researcher from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), who is officially on the team to test out the Agency's new Augmented Reaction Suit (ARS), but is also secretly tasked with tracking down the designer of the space station, Dr. Francis Candide.<br><br>The ARS turns Gideon into something of a hybrid of Iron Man and RoboCop, with powerful armor, tremendous mobility due to jet thrusters on each of his arms and legs, massive firepower thanks to a system that can replicate any weapon he finds, and a special "AR" mode that allows for slow-motion attacks and evasion during periods of extreme duress. Players can store three weapons at a time, and the ARS also enhances Gideon's strength, allowing him to unleash deadly melee attacks at close range. He is not invincible, however, as the ARS can only boost for a short duration before it requires a cooling down period, so gamers are best advised to make use of Vanquish's sticky cover system during vulnerable moments. The game's environments were designed to be massive and interactive, with destructible elements, fights between background characters, and enough space for Gideon to comfortably boost, and Vanquish features a scoring mechanic engineered to dissuade over reliance on any one style of play by awarding multipliers for stringing together boosts, melee attacks, and slow-motion "AR" mode combat.

Lame story and characters, but 10x better than Gears of War.
Oh boy...where to begin? Vanquish is a fast-paced, action-packed (J)RPG that will keep your attention and keep you on your toes with its impressive visuals and non-stop storm of bullets that will undoubtedly be raining down upon you. If you're looking for a meaningful character development and growth, or a deep and compelling story...keep looking, as Vanquish offers very little substance when it comes to those qualities. Vanquish is a game that can't decide what it wants to be. With gritty characters that sound like they downed a bowl of gravel for breakfast like those in American Shooters (Gears of War, Killzone, etc.), but stylish graphics and gameplay reminiscent of Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, and Devil May Cry, Vanquish is the awkward middle child that tries to bridge the gap. This game is so addicting and fun. The gameplay is unmatched. Very glad to see it becoming popular now.

Gears of war, but faster - much faster!
Good: tight controls and gameplay, strong graphics and visual design, excellent sound, a lot of fun! Bad: a counter-intuitive weapon upgrading system, a silly story, very little replay value unless you're simply playing to get a higher score. I would rent this or buy it used then regift it or sell it on ebay. It's a blast for about 6 hours, but that's a bit short in my opinion and not worth paying retail.Good: tight controls and gameplay, strong graphics and visual design, excellent sound, a lot of fun! Cheap, cheesy, visually great, Michael Bay storyline...entertaining crap.
Its an old school kind of game in its basic simplicity. Thats its strenght as well as its weakness. Plot and story line are Michael Bay bad, so its hard to really get involved in the game or to find it adictive. On the other hand pase is so fast that you dont really have much time to think to much, its that kind of game, like renting a movie at the end of a hard stressfull weak....you just dont want to watch a david lynch movie...unsubstantial...shallow...but visually stunning and even if at times "cheesebally" entertaining to play once...wont really be touching it again...Its an old school kind of game in its basic simplicity. A short game, but one of the most fun you can get in a game
A fast and chaotic over-the-shoulder third-person shooting game. First the bad: - The main game is short: at about 5 hours for most people. - Cheesy plot and script: typical sci-fi nonsense; dialogue can be down-right ridiculous at times. - No multiplayer mode: The Good: - High Octane action: Make no mistake, this game all the action sequences typical of a Japanese Anime during cut scenes as well as game play. - Smooth control mechanics: the game character handles pretty much the way you ask him to. - Excellent graphics: despite all the stuff that can happen on the screen at once, I have not experienced any drop in framerate or screen tearing while playing on a 60Hz TV; The environments look beautiful and motion effects ate stunning ...One more thing to consider: Although the main ...
