    Romance with non-traditional gender roles

    When this comedy was made, viewers found it funny because it seemed so ridiculous. Cary Grant is bossed around by his bride-to-be, even before he has to wear female clothing. She wears the pants [literally!] and drives the motorcycle; he rides in the sidecar. He screams when their rowboat is about to go over a waterfall; she grabs a rope and pulls them to safety. When they fall in love, it's just another part of the silly screwball antics. But as we move toward an era where men and women are no longer forced to take on traditional gender roles, this film can be appreciated on another level. We have two heterosexual adults where the male is more emotional and the woman is more logical. She's a leader, he's a follower, and they work well together, much more so than if both were bossy or ...

    Ann Sheridan and Cary Grant have great chemistry

    Ann Sheridan and Cary Grant have charming and fun interactions in this movie based in Germany after World War II. She's vibrant, sassy, and full of character. He's a great combination of sauve and subte. It is a little odd having Cary Grant play a French national. Thankfully, he does not waste any effort trying to speak as though he were French.

    Super romantic war time comedy with Cary Grant as star!

    This film makes me laugh each time I watch it! Cary Grant gets himself into a fix when he falls in love with a woman in the military during war time. Of course the military normally frowns on 'war time romances' cause they often end up in divorce and are just a way for people in countries that want to immigrate to a better situation to get quick citizenship and then dump the spouse later. In this case, Grant has to get in under the clause of HIM being the 'war bride'. This creates all kinds of problems as of course the 'war brides' are generally all female and he can't house with them. He can't stay with his wife, he can't sleep in the quarters for spouses and spends his honey moon having to try to catch sleep where he can (even in a bath tub!). Not to be missed.     Ann Sheridan at her best.

    The direction, costumes, story line and shows a picture of the life of people in the Armed Forces after WWII was accurate and can be classified as an archeological treasure. It would have been even more interesting had it been filmed in color to show Ann Sheridan's red hair.
