I know that there may be an updated version of this book by now, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Parsons takes the time to explain what the various ingredients in hair-care products are, and what they do. I was surprised to find out that in some cases, the very expensive conditioners are really no better than the more affordable ones. The book was easy to navigate, with a host of information that even someone without a chemistry can understand. The only downside (for me) was that I wish this book had an index and perhaps a glossary of the basic ingredients in the products. Exceptional Manual on Everything Hair
Like: This book contains all sorts of factual information about hair, hair products, and the hair industry. It is a fantastic reference guide. Due to all of this, the book allowed me to feel less overwhelmed by the plethora of products for sale. Dislike: Slightly weak organization; no index; no glossary; author contradicts herself at times; sometimes the writing is convoluted (for example, the section on differentiating hair brushes was hard to follow); product reviews are very brief; this edition is from 2004 and there are many products (and some brands) that are not listed as they were released after publishing. Why I decided to buy it: I wanted to have access to truthful information about hair without the hype and foolery contained in fashion magazines.Like: This book contains all sorts of factual information about hair, hair products, and the hair industry. I read the "Complete Beauty Bible" by paula begoun and had to have this book on hair care products. ALL her books are easy to read and understand and I think everyone should have copies. Her books have saved me a TON of money as I now know what to buy and what works! Her web site www.cosmeticscop.com is also extremely informative.
