Basic
This is a working plane but even at that, it needs improvement. The sole is extremely rough and needs a little work to smooth it down. That said, it isn't a $200 plane with all the hand finishing done to it. It has all the features of the old Stanley planes but with new cost cutting quality. It has a good blade that only needs the normal fine touch to the edge and all the features work well. I would buy it again if I needed another one for rough work but now I know it would need some time and effort to 'tune' it up. This is a working plane but even at that, it needs improvement. stanley 6" adjustable plane
It is easy to use. There are easier ones on the market. This unit gets the job done at an affordable price. You can't go wrong with stanley products. Most certainly built to be a lifetime hand tool with replacement parts readily available. I recommend it.

I’ve had better Stanleys
The bed angle was poorly ground at the throat, causing the blade to be too high, which in turn makes the blade project too far forward in to the throat before the cutter can engage the workpiece. Additionally that makes the heel of the blade too low for the blade clamp to tighten up, and the clamp just floats around. The adjustable throat is only usable for half it’s range, otherwise the blade contacts the shoe. Sole and blade not very flat - expected that, but the effort needed to correct the blade angle shows how poor the fit and finish on my example was out of the box. Bought a tatty older model for less money, took under an hour to flatten, sharpen and set up, and it works better than the new offering. I’m sure most aren’t as poor as my example, but that doesn’t say much for ... Sweet Plane
I owned a 12-960 for over 30 years until a nail gun fell from the top of a six foot ladder right on it(it was sitting on it's side on the front door threshold). The gun snapped a chunk out of the side of the body and the sole took on an immediate "bow" making the plane useless. I finally got around to buying a replacement (I own more than 30 Planes), and took all of my old parts and put them on the new body. Very good
I bought this plane for cleaning up dovetails and end grain. It can be adjusted to cut so fine that the chips are as fine as sanding dust. Blade was sharp right out of the box. Just what I needed. It seams well made and tight. A little spendy but it will last me a long time. Don't know about quality control, but the one I got is very good. Good luck.
