Value Packed Collection! A MUST for Hitchcock collectors & fans!
SUPERB SET! These are some of the BEST Hitchcock films - thoughtful, not just entertaining. His latter works were great hits, but he succumbed to popular pressure to produce for mass audiences. (I don't know, were audiences of 1960's & 70's less intelligent or war-weary and needing pure entertainment?) At any rate these are to-date best views of these superb films. I LOVE every one for different reasons - acting, locations, camera set-up, scripts.... These were produced as Criterion collection so same quality. You will be well pleased! (My original copy of Young & Innocent was so dark and the sound so noisy I don't know how I watched. My daughter came in while I was watching this copy and exclaimed "OH! Is THAT who was in ......!!" - no spoilers, but very dark & mysterious in original. Far ... SUPERB SET! These are some of the BEST Hitchcock films - thoughtful, not just entertaining. The Highlights of The Master's Early Work in One Handy Collection
As these are the original studio transfers, these movies look as good as possible (saving a future Blu-ray reissue, that is!) Most have supplements and special features. The only drawback: the discs are housed in clumsy cardboard sleeves in a "3-ring binder" type arrangement. Not ideal. Also, sadly out of print.

One of the best Hitchcock Collections
The Premier Collection completed my Hitchcock collection. The 3-4 pages of background that gives you insight into the film. i.e. The restrictions on the set presented Hitchcock with a new problem: How to get his signature cameo."I thought of being A DEAD BODY FLOATING PAST THE LIFEBOAT, but I was afraid I'd sink" Then it hit him he had been on a strict diet and had gone from 300 to 200# so he used a before & after photo for a diet advertisement on the back page of a newspaper one of the characters was reading on the boat. He was "submerged" with letters asking were they could get the product. Later he said that IT WAS HIS FAVORITE PART IN ALL HIS FILMS. Durable binder for ease of page turning. Revisit A Classic!
They certainly don't make them like they used to. To date no other director has been able to capture the suspense like Hitchcock did. Certainly it was a collaborative effort of writers, actors, actresses, makeup and wardrobe personnel. Some individuals like suspense/thriller movies without all the body parts strewn hither and yon. If you want to select a movie when Hollywood was in its golden age, one can't go wrong with this series of movies.They certainly don't make them like they used to.
