Guilty Gear X2 is the sequel to Arc System Works' high-resolution fighter, Guilty Gear X. Similar to its predecessor, Guilty Gear X2 offers various tweaks and improvements, along with more tangible additions such as new fighters and extra modes. Gameplay is governed by a multitude of powerful special moves such as Psych Bursts, Roman Cancels, Overdrives, Faultless Defense, Dead Angles, and One-Hit Kills (Sammy Studios nomenclature for a stock selection of, cancels, air juggles and counters). A roster of 23 playable characters (some hidden) awaits players, and features an indiscriminate collection of old and new, though no less quirky, faces. Among the new arrivals are the androgynous, yo-yo wielding Bridget and I-No, a leather-clad woman armed with a guitar.<br><br>Arcade, Versus, and Training disciplines will be familiar to even casual fans of the genre, augmented by the considerably more involved Mission and Story modes. The Story mode thrusts players into a series of encounters that are book-ended by basic discourse between combatants, and ultimately reveal more about each character and their relationships. Paths and endings will vary based upon various in-game factors. The Mission mode presents players with a collection of 50 predetermined challenges that require one to contend with time and health handicaps in addition to limited move sets and other such constraints. A unique take on the usual Survival mode, M.O.M. (Medal of Millionaires) tracks the number of combos performed during a bout (via an onscreen meter) and awards points and medals accordingly.<br><br>A plethora of secrets -- both time-released and through excellent play in the various game modes -- can be unlocked and include artwork, EX and SP character variations as well as extra games modes such as the GG mode. Like its forebears, Guilty Gear X2 features a metal/rock guitar soundtrack.

Action packed and graphics galore!
Here we are with a fighting game that goes beyond boundaries of the convention fighting game. It is graphics intensive, and has a guitar shredding soundtrack. It is a bit gothic in nature, but he theme is more futuristic. The main allure, as a fighting game fan was the gameplay. However, to execute moves in this game, it is a different scheme than, let's say, Street Fighter. This game truly is a combo-oriented game. You have your basic attacks, your special attacks, a few overdrives (specials), an instant kill (in which has to be executed when activated. you lose life meanwhile in this instance and lose the ability to use specials), a burst (your burst meter fills up so you can get out of being pummeled), and an air attack which allows you to knock your opponent in the air and follow up ... The characters, most of them, in my opinion, are well designed and eye catching. Some of the characters' designs are too busy. As a lot of people are enamored with extreme detail, had this game not have been great gameplay-wise, the designs would have done the game no justice. For the moves, design wise, are very innovative. Story wise, I do not like it. It's very nonsensical to me. It feels as they designed the characters first, then tried to tie them together somehow. However, some of the characters' individual backgrounds are interesting, and some associated with each other. With a PS2 controller, it can be a nightmare for your thumbs. I recommend an arcade stick for this game. Some prefer the PS2 for it though. It's a matter of preference. I truly believe it depends how you started playing this. I started on an arcade cabinet, so I'm used to the fluidity of execution with a joystick rather than a D- Pad that feels unresponsive at times, and to mention, uncomfortable. I truly know this game is a treat, visually and gameplay wise. It's not a simple game to play, but once you get a feel for the system, you'll be playing in no time.

A Great 2D Fighter
I've never been a huge fan of fighting games, mostly because they never struck me as being particularly original. There didn't seem to be much creativity or variety present, at least not in what I had seen; punch, kick, block, and a crapload of combos. However, more recently, I started taking a greater interest in the genre, mostly after playing a great deal more Smash Bros. Melee, as well as some Darkstalkers. Both of these are very unique and interesting games that break the sterotypes I once held about the genre, and I was prompted to further explore to see what other gems I might find. Low and behold, here is a series that fits the description: Guilty Gear. I can't say I've played more than a few fighting games, but I can say that this is among the best of those I have. Chock ... Admittedly, due to my current skill level, there are portions of this game that I've hardly touched, and will probably never be able to complete (mission mode seems absolutely brutal to me,) but there is still enough content to hold my interest with a traditional arcade mode, an extensive story mode, and a few other survival-type modes. I would definitely recommend this game to both hardcore and casual fighters alike; although, to the hardcore fighter, I might suggest waiting for the remake, Guilty Gear XX Slash, which I hear rebalances all the characters and adds some new content. Anyone looking for an enjoyable fighter, though, should look no further.

The Guilty Gear series is renowned for it's over the top characters and it's madcap mile-a-minute combat; Guilty Gear X2 (or XX) follows this trend and improves upon it. Boasting several new additions to a cast which is without a doubt one of the most unique in the universe of fighting games and an improved combat system, GGX2 is the diamond of this series. The mechanics are nearly flawless and with the exception of the three hidden characters, the fighters are all extremely balanced. Of course, some are much easier to use than others but any one of the characters can be incredibly effective when mastered. The graphics and style prove that a 2D fighter can still look awesome even in a market dominated by 3D. The only warning I would give is that to have such a complex and well-balanced ... I bought this Playstation video game about 2 months ago. What can I say I love it!! Guilty Gear X2 is a must have playstation game for all fighting fans. If you love playing street fighter, snk, then you will love Guilty Gear X2. The graphics are superb, the control is excellent, and even the music is a blast to play to. The only thing I didn't like was the high learning curve. Players must play for hours just to understand the game dynamics for each character. Overall a great game! Purchase this game right away, you won't be disapointed,I bought this Playstation video game about 2 months ago. What can I say I love it!!
