Love Canon G Series
This is the fourth camera I have owned in the G series. I started with the G2 and stepped through the 6 and 10. The flexibility of this camera rivals my 7d II without the bulk and intimidation factor. I love having this in my pocket when visiting kids. They will act up for the big camera but give you a much more natural result when you can be more discreet This is an ideal travel camera. You can set it on Auto and shoot away or take a minute to analyze the scene and use its advanced features. The results justify the price.This is the fourth camera I have owned in the G series. Not bad Canon, but you missed a couple of key features.
I had a Canon G12 prior to this and had to send it back for some warranty work which is very disappointing to say the least. But when the G15 came out, boasting a higher MP count and other features, it seemed like a no brainer. The Pros: Definitely has fantastic picture quality Lightweight Fast aperture (F1.8) Nice built in features Full manual control (Dslr like in this way) Solid build construction Decent battery life Portable The Cons: No vari-angle LCD. This has particularly bothered me because for something so small and convenient, I was often in a position to take a low/high perspective shot and couldn't do it very easily since I couldn't see the screen (the G12 had one....duh, Canon!) Several functions are buried deep in the menu No microphone input. ... I had a Canon G12 prior to this and had to send it back for some warranty work which is very disappointing to say the least. But when the G15 came out, boasting a higher MP count and other features, it seemed like a no brainer. This may seem like nothing to most folks, but this camera takes gorgeous video, and being a local film maker, I really missed not being able to capture better audio. I bought this to use as an additional camera in our shoots, and the on board audio was often very thin and full of wind noise, which made it just nearly unusable even as a reference sample. Had to buy an adapter to attach filters I'm sure I have missed a few points. But these were the most obvious. All in all, the G15 makes for a perfect companion for anyone looking for a pocketable camera with plenty of DSLR features. It had plenty of punch for taking awesome photos. I even used it as a backup at a wedding. And it did amazingly well!!! It's low profile, easy to tote around on long days. It's especially well suited for vacations when you don't want to take your workhorse but still need something better than just a straight point and shoot. I would definitely buy it again at the price point you can get it for as of this writing. Canon did a good job here. I just really missed the tilty swively screen.

Invest in a G16 instead of a G15
I'm an amateur photographer but have had to extensively use a camera in my professional work for scientific applications. Thus I have considerable experience with cameras & photography. I own & use the Canon G12 (personal use) because I sometimes like an optical viewfinder and a tilting/rotating screen. I decided to purchase a used G15 to see if it were much different than both the Canon G12 and G16. The G15 for general use is too little different from the G12 (Note I didn't say much different in all features, etc, just typical use.), plus the screen is fixed, for my recommending its purchase. I already had a G16 & can now say with confidence that I'd suggest spending a little more money and buy the G16 instead of the G15.I'm an amateur photographer but have had to extensively use a camera in my professional work for scientific applications. Canon G15 For casual photography
I use Nikon D800 and Fuji mirrorless systems for the majority of my photography and needed something small but capable to take with me for just kicking around. I wanted something I could hand my wife or a friend without having to conduct an impromptu mini photography course. This little guy does the trick. The images are more than acceptable for social media and small prints and the camera is easy enough to for a novice. It affords plenty of control and is of high enough quality mechanically and optically to keep me happy. Great little camera within it's intended use! G15 an excellent, all-around camera
Camera was precisely as stated in the description. It was to be an upgrade from my G11, which the camera fulfills completely. I had been thinking of buying an interchangeable-lens compact camera (4/3, micro 4/3, or mirrorless) , but realized that carrying around two or three lenses with a body might be more than I wanted to mess with. The G11 had worked so well for so many years, I decided to stick with the brand and proven "G" line. The upgrade provides faster focus and shorter time lag after pressing the shutter release. More importantly, I shoot almost exclusively with available light. The faster lens (f1.8-2.8 as opposed to the G-11's 2.8-4.5) makes more such shots possible. Still, cameras with fixed lenses are a compromise. With an interchangeable-lens ... Camera was precisely as stated in the description.
