À propos de ce produit

Product Information

No longer found only on the backs of ol' cow hands from the Rio Grande, or in closets that have been undisturbed for the last sixty years, cowboy shirts are now highly collectible-treasured pieces of Western Americana. But what distinguishes one from the other? Cowboy Shirts is the resource on understanding the history behind these uniquely American pieces of art, and on what to look for in collecting them, because while fashion trends may come and go, quality design and construction are always recognizable. The book contains a complete list of cowboy shirt labels (over 250 of them ) to help you identify the manufacturer and date of your finds, and Rowdy, rhinestoned, saucy, sturdy, colorful, or plain-Cowboy Shirts will make you want to kick up your spurs in Western delight as you follow them from practical wear, to costume, to fashion, to art. G. Daniel DeWeese was raised in South Dakota where his parents owned and operated a ranch near the Black Hills. Dan studied creative writing at the University of South Dakota before going to West Africa with the Peace Corps as an irrigation specialist for agricultural development programs. He helped launch and manage an agricultural-development company in Saudi Arabia. Dan has worn Western shirts, hats and boots all his life, around the world. He lives with his wife, Julie, and their overgrown Airedale in Minnesota. Steve Weil has Western wear in his genes: he is the third generation to run his family's firm, Rockmount Ranch Wear Mfg. Co. Steve's first foray in the rag trade was in 1958 as an infant model in a Western industry fashion show. His love for vintage Western wear began in high school when he raided his grandfather's closet for shirts from the 40's. Today he heads the company and is responsible for all design of the brand's many lines. Steve lives in Denver with his wife Wendy and son Colter.

Avis les plus pertinents

  • Our history through clothing

If you are interested in a bit of history in regards to our clothing - this book is for you! The book is very detailed, alot of pictures, easy to follow and interesting to anyone that collects or sells vintage clothing! One of the authors is none other than Rockmounts', grandson himself. Authors are very knowlegable and again give great detail from fabric content, to era, snaps, yokes and the era of each shirt in detail. All your favorites Rockmount, Wrangler, Levi & Karman included. Vintage clothing fascinates me from denims to western, I bought the book not only to study clothing history, but to help me find the items when I am out and about. Truly a good buy for the price!

  • Great New Western Shirts Book Out!!

I collect, wear, buy, and sell vintage western clothing, so I was attracted to this new book out on shirts. Although the book is on fairly modern shirts, there is extensive information on each maker and their history. I especially love the back pages, with all the legends of changes over the years in the labels, their colors, letterings and logos along with dates of each that I will find most helpful in my work. It's also beautifully laid out, the pictures are clean and crisp, and it's a plus that it's in full color. I am most pleased with my purchase, and I strongly advise owning a copy of it to anyone who shares a love for this great area of Americana! Cowgalpal

  • Essential reading and viewing, for clothes designers.

This book is a obvious must have for western shirt collectors. But maybe more so for fashion designers. Contains: The history behind and the brands that brought the first western shirts, accompanied by full color images and classic advertisements. The styles and influences of the western shirt has not gone out of fashion since the beginning of the western wear. It mainly focuses on the "couture" side of western wear and not the mass production of it. It would have been nice to have seen an item about that to, because western wear is for every body on all scales of the social ladder. From the workers, cowboys, business men from the old day to the Rock and roll movie stars and urban cowboys of today, and all their gall's and wives.

  • Well worth the time!

Great book packed full of info on vintage western shirts and the makers of said shirts. A must have if you collect western shirts, and just a great read if you just want to learn about western shirts!
