In the summer of 1962, nineteen-year-old Mimi Beardsley arrived by train in Washington, D.C., to begin an internship in the White House press office. The Kennedy Administration had reinvigorated the capital and the country--and Mimi was eager to contribute. For a young woman from a privileged but sheltered upbringing, the job was the chance of a lifetime. Although she started as a lowly intern, Mimi made an impression on Kennedy's inner circle and, after just three days at the White House, she was presented to the President himself.   Almost immediately, the two began an affair that would continue for the next eighteen months.   In an era when women in the workplace were still considered "girls," Mimi was literally a girl herself--naïve, innocent, emotionally unprepared for the thrill that came when the President's charisma and power were turned on her full-force.     Historical Fiction or Not? Another Scandal from the JFK Years

    This book is sheer soap opera; rather scandalous, and at times, unbelievable. But it is certainly light reading and very entertaining in a historical fiction kind of way. If you are intrigued by the Kennedy era, then you will enjoy this book about a young, naive 19-year old college student who serves as an intern at the White House during the JFK years. Supposedly, their affair lasted a couple of years. The author has only recently come forward to tell her story. No one is alive to refute it, so one needs to read it and decide for his/herself just what is real and what is fiction. I recommend this for summer time reading by the pool or at the beach. It's a fast read, so don't even bother buying it. Get it from your library and save a few dollars.

    After so many years, revealing a high profile consensual affair for profit?

    I've always had an enormous respect for Pres. Kennedy, and I bought this book to really understand why he would go as far as taking the virginity of a female student. The story has definitely given me some In site concerning the president's private life and his relationship with his wife, and at least an affair with another woman much younger than him! She consented and to this day has no regrets about this! I don't know how she can live with her doing this? Very interesting, but if it had been me, I would have died with this secret, or at least made sure that only trusted family would have known. She has degraded the President and his family, and she doesn't not have a conscience..

    Wanted more to read.

    I read this and loved it. I am just amazed after all those years this story had not come out before now. She was a mesmerized young college girl who was swept up with the man of power. Very interesting and I am sure it was not an easy story for her to tell the world, especially John Kennedy's family. I just wish the book was longer. I would recommend this to anyone who finds these kinds of true stories amazing and interesting.
