A voice like no other!
Like many artists I listen to, I usually start out with a greatest hits package first. Nat had such a wonderful range that a greatest hits CD simply isn't enough. I had read previous reviews about this boxed set and decided to pick it up. What's inside is marvelous: a cross section of his entire (too short) career is represented here, from his early work with the King Cole Trio in the 1940's to his last sessions from 1964. His voice grew better as the years progressed and even the remakes of his earlier work (not on this set) hold up quite well to the originals. Nat King Cole is my hero!
A love for Mr. Cole's music was a special bond that my father and I shared while I was growing up. Nat's voice was magical it has the ability to make me laugh, cry or even just sigh contently. His songs are stories he's telling to whomever will listen. So when my box set of Nat King Cole CDs where burned up in a fire I was very sad as it seemed like a piece of my childhood was lost forever. When I looked for the box sets on E-bay they were expensive but then I found just the CDs for a resonable price and was lucky enough to win the auction. I miss not having the insert that tells of Nat's life and how his career began but at least now I have his wonderful music and the joy he brings to my heart back in my life. A worthy addition to my boxed set library.
In my retirement one of my favorite hobbies collecting boxed sets. I find that I can dig a bit deeper into an artists catalog. As a baby boomer, I mostly remember Nat King Cole from older tv shows in black and white.I was pleasently surprised by this 4cd set. The first cd is mostly a jazz-type piano-driven one,...while the later 3 present Nat as mostly the romantic crooner. One of the best things I purchased.
If you know Nate "King" Cole you would understand how good this CD is. I enjoy music from the 20's thru the 90's, I don't like hard rock or rap. I think you have to set your own set of standards when looking for something. Set a given price in your mind and stick with it. Sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. Do some research so you have a good idea what the item is worth. Check all the info you are given about the product and give it your best shot. I have not been disappointed with any thing I have purchased on ebay, but I did my homework. What can you say about anything that showcases the talent and music of a legend, the voice of Nat King Cole is beyond description his ability and range is wonderful. His music is showcased by the selection of music that spans a long and successful career. His talent and music will never be forgotten and his ability to make a song his own is beyond question.
