  • They don't make em like this anymore!

I was looking for a camera that could take a remote shutter release for copy work. What I found was so much more! This great camera is built like a 35mm film camera. To zoom, just turn the ring on the lens barrel. Refine focus, a handy ring on the lens lets the old camera buff feel at home. Its got a great picture, you get to control color saturation, (like picking your film) for intense vivid colors ala Kodachrome or softer muted colors, or no color at all. The interval timer can be set to take pictures delaying start time up to 24 hours, so you don't have to stay up late for that night shot of the moon on the rise. You can make a time lapse movie! Really expensive DSLRs have features like this, but "The Minds of Minolta" were onboard with this early digital camera. Be sure your camera ...

  • Discontinued but get one if you can....

The A1 looks, feels and performs like a "real" camera. Right down to the full manual controls (which is why I got it). The unique anti-shake extends your slow speed handheld shots. And where else are you going to find a 5MP non-pro digicam with a shutter speed of 1/16000? Enough to stop humming bird wings. Noise is a problem at 800ISO too much even to cover up in post. Otherwise great shots and a lot of latitude in processing in RAW mode. The only two accessories I've gotten are the remote and the 3600HS flash. Anyway, my A1 has given me no trouble in 2 years, though for some reason, I feel I'm "on borrowed time" like the Mars rovers since KM abandoned the A1 less than 2 years after intro. Only 1 firmware upgrade and that's it.(One of my main beefs with digicams and the reason it only ...

  • Good collectible old Minolta but not great if its your only shooter.

Great collectible for the Minolta fan. High end camera 10 years ago still takes good to great pictures. Known to have a recalled CCD and does not focus well even in moderate light. Manual focus is painful and not mechanically linked. Minolta ( now Sony ) support is all but non-existent. Great telephoto control and one of the best lenses ever on a 5MP point and shoot. Has great color, contrast and saturation when all the stars line up. Well worth 100 bucks or so if you get a good one with the extras that go along with the camera like the tulip lens shade, cap, battery, charger, software, cables, manuals ect. Spending much more than that on this camera is money that would be better spent on a modern camera that blows this old dog out of the water. But its a very cool old camera and if you ...

  • Awesome camera, fantastic price, amazing pictures!

The DiMAGE A1 is a wonderful camera that takes terrific photos at an unbelievable price. Pros -Price ($100-$200 today, $1,100 at debut) -Shutter Speed 1/16,000 -Manual focus if needed -RAW image format -Everything that can be manually managed, can be -Awesome battery life Cons -5.0 MP (everything is 10 and up today) -ISO 800 is maximum I have been very satisfied with this purchase. Even at 10 years old, it shoots circles around most cameras for sale today.

  • new to Minolta, a great camera

Well I bought a used Minolta Dimage A1, and when I recieved it I turned it on and started taking pictures immediately. It took very sharp pics. and for a novice with this camera, it was very easy to figure out without even going through the book. But I must admit this is probably because I already own a couple of Sony digital cameras, and am familiar with their workings, and could apply that knowledge to the Dimage. But by my reading sooo... much aboutthe camera I had to try it for myself.I was sooo.... impressed after the first day, that I bought another one on ebay, just for a back up...lol, anyway it is a great camera, and originally priced around $900.00.....now it's a steal to buy and own.It would have been nice if the seller, whom I gave positive feedback to would have at least left ...
