Rumors of
I have heard so much about this movie that I had to buy it. Some are true and others are not, but it is still a movie to see. I heard rumors of underage nudity, graphic violence, gore, and other things to make this movie more exciting. For the most part, they are wrong. Young Ms. Smith does tease a good bit in the film, but I saw no actual nudity, as such. The violence was tame, akin to a 1950's western, and the gore was so tame that I didn't even notice it. So, if you are looking for any of this, you might want to pass on the movie, as it has higher standards in mind. Having said that, I should note that it is not a multi-million production and is rather dark and dated. The acting is not "hammy" and seems to carry well. The lighting is poor, but that actually works to the mood of ... I have heard so much about this movie that I had to buy it. Some are true and others are not, but it is still a movie to see. It was just ok
OK, this movie is about a girl who's father is an outlaw in the 30's or 40's, who ends up in a town full of creatures, and his daughter is sent a letter telling her to come there, but when she does, she finds out that she was lured there for another reason. I thought this movie was just ok, for the time period it was made in. The story was ok, and the acting could of been a lot better. I would say if you like the old Peter Cushing type movies, you know the kind where a bunch of people end up in a spooky old castle and horror ensues, then you will probably like this one. Had this movie had a (much) larger budget, I believe that it would be regarded as a classic. Moody. dark, at times rather intense, it is the story of a young girl searching for her father, but who instead is driven to the brink of madness and evil by events in her past (including (how timely) the acts of a preacher). Rainbeaux Smith is waif-like (though, to be honest, rather somnabulistic), and Leslie Gilb very convincing as evil-masquerading-as-good. This movie was the last feature shown on the late, lamented Bob Wilkins/John Stanley Creature Features show.Had this movie had a (much) larger budget, I believe that it would be regarded as a classic. A vampire movie
the late Lesley Gilb would have been great in a Dracula movie and she was scarey to look at and her makeup and clothing certainly made this tale of terror worthwhile and this was her only film that she was in and it would have been a discovery for her to be in a Dracula film with other great actors.
