A brunette Sarah Michelle Gellar stars opposite Alec Baldwin in this romantic coming-of-age story loosely based on the popular Melissa Banks book THE GIRL'S GUIDE TO HUNTING AND FISHING. Gellar plays Brett Eisenberg, a young woman working her way up New York City's publishing ladder. Eager to get ahead, Brett attends a book signing with hopes of meeting influential publishing giant Archie Knox (Alec Baldwin). No sooner do they trade glances than Archie is wooing Brett with extravagant dates, expensive gifts, and career assistance. The relationship is a storybook romance from the start, but slowly gets much more complicated due to the age difference and Archie's alcoholism.Viewers might initially struggle to relate to the young protagonist--things seem to come a bit too easily for Brett, who conveniently lives rent-free in her grandmother's vacant and fancy Manhattan apartment. That said, it's easy to understand why the filmmakers chose this scenario, as New York does look better through the eyes of privilege. It is a land mysteriously without subways, and where every building has a doorman. The setting is contrived, but the romance manages to feel authentic. Watching Archie, anyone can see how a girl could easily swoon over him. Baldwin is extremely charming as a flawed but charismatic man close in age to Brett's father. SUBURBAN GIRL is highly entertaining throughout, and a fine showcase for Baldwin, who, playing a character with eerie similarities to himself, is a joy to watch.

Not what I was expecting
Im used to Sarah in more powerful roles, i was looking forward to seeing a softer side but I was a little disappointed. She enters into a relationship with an older man and time seems to fast forward to an issue here and an issue there between them, then bam! the movie focuses on her dad becoming ill. She is trying to find herself throughout the movie but Im not sure she realizes as a character that she is even looking for anything. She comes across as a book smart but utterly naive young girl rebelling against her fathers coddling while also indulging in it and playing grownup with the novelty of an older man. Movie also plays on her boyfriend having a fatherly role in her life while also being an absent tee father to his actual daughter, which is sarah's characters age. The only salvage ... Love this movie!!! Alec Baldwin is charming as ever!!!
I thought this was a wonderful story, though I wish it had a different ending :( Alec Baldwin gives another exceptional performance (as always) and Sarah Michelle Gellar is so adorable! It's a typical May-December romance that has its fair share of challenges that are revealed in the film. A story of personal growth, self-discovery, love's rewards/hardships and accepting who you are. As both characters struggle with their own difficulties, can they find enough common ground to make their relationship last???? You'll have to watch for yourself.... It does have some light-hearted, funny moments though. well reson i got the dvd was because i like sarah michelle gellar i liked her in buffy one of my favorit shows ,alec baldwin hes a good actor to but over all this was a pertty good movie ,my husband calls it a chic flick, good ladys night movie set back relax and watch the movie,its got alot of feeling to it its funny,romance,comady,packed movie i liked it but just because i liked it dont mean you will every body has there own taste in movies ! but i say if you like romance books or movies then you will enjoy this movie !well reson i got the dvd was because i like sarah michelle gellar i liked her in buffy one of my favorit shows ,alec baldwin hes a good actor to but over all this was a pertty good movie ,my husband calls it a chic flick, good ladys night movie set back relax and watch the movie,its got alot of feeling to it its funny,romance,comady,packed movie i liked it but just because i liked it dont mean you will every body has there own taste in movies ! but i say if you like romance books or movies then you will enjoy this movie !

Great Movie!!!
