This is a book for the true Gil Elvgren fan.
Most complete collection of Gil Elvgren paintings that you will find anywhere. I use this the guide for finding titles, subjects, and the date of the original paintings that are used on the trading cards I have been selling for over 20 years. Beautiful product for Taschen in Germany. There are several versions, hard bound and paperbacks of different sizes, to make sure you bid on the one you want.Most complete collection of Gil Elvgren paintings that you will find anywhere. I use this the guide for finding titles, subjects, and the date of the original paintings that are used on the trading cards I have been selling for over 20 years. Great coffee table book! Elvgren's genius on good show
Everybody's heard of Petty & Vargas, but Elvgrin is to pin-up what Penthouse is to titilation; by comparison Petty& Vargas are closer to Hustler in terms of artistry & choice of models and meaning. This book is a great tribute to his work. Only annoyance is that page numbers are printed within the framework of many posters, and [bad news]the scrap-book presentation means that posters overlap on many pages; also the quality of many of the prints is very grainy. The good news: this book contains countless illustrations/examples of his incredibly prolific mastery; the layout per se is beautifully playful & text/fonts do justice to the happily saucy nature of the art. A thoroughly entertaining, surprising book chock full of truly wondrous art. Elvgren must join the ranks of the world's all ... Throwback?
Maybe I am a throwback, But I always found this art form fascinating from the realism of the art, to the use of it to get soldiers through WWI and More so WWII. Some of the Pin ups of today are so sexual they leave nothing to the imagination which was the majority of the point of a pinup, the art of the tease. From burlesque, to pin ups it is a philosophy lost on many girls and boys today.

Gil Elvgren a Master at his trade
I bought this book book because I was researching Pin Up girls (cheesecake art) for a project that I will soon be undertaking. He is one of my favorites from this genere. The paintings that he does are second to none. This book is chock full of beautiful women, in different poses. I rank him up there with Vargas, Mozeret, Ward, Petty and others. You will be very pleased with this book, and it is written in three different languages, so that all can read about his wonderful work.
