The Apollo 11 mission that carried them and fellow astronaut Michael Collins on their epic journey marked the successful culmination of a quest that, ironically, had begun in Nazi Germany thirty years before. This is the story of the Apollo 11 mission and the 'space hardware' that made it all possible. Author Chris Riley looks at the evolution and design of the mighty Saturn V rocket, the Command and Service Modules, and the Lunar Module. He also describes the space suits worn by the crew, with their special life support systems. Wonderful addition to a reference library
When I first saw the cover of this book, I thought it was a joke. But it is an actual Haynes manual. The book covers the Apollo 11 mission, but it has a wealth of reference material about the development of the American space program, including the Mercury and Gemini missions. There are photos in this book that I've never seen before, along with technical drawings of panel layouts, interior equipment locations, component cut-aways, and much more. I took this book with me to WonderFest 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky, and people that looked at it were amazed that it is a real book rather than a gimmick that someone was advertising. If you have an interest in the US space program during the 1950's, 60's and 70's, buy this book. It is well worth the money and is an excellent reference to ... Great book for anyone interested in the space program. It has many diagrams of all the components and every switch and gauge in the command module and luner lander.
