Never show everything "Girls, Gags & Giggles" - this was publisher Robert Harrison's recipe for dishing up the American pin-up to the U.S. male. In the 1950s his girlie magazines sold by the millions, before becoming icons of pulp and trash culture. These skilfully illustrated girls with their curvaceous forms and inviting lingerie soon overtook America's national dessert, in terms of popularity, and even developed considerable potential as a cultural export during the 1940s. "Never show everything," was always the motto. Smiling prettily at the camera, the models exuded just the right amount of sex appeal without seeming too sophisticated or artful. They were the 'girls next door' whose wholesome attraction soon made one forget the magazines' deliberately trashy presentation.     Light book with a LOT of content!

    This book is absolutely packed with vintage pin up pictures from different eras. Of course the old pin up motto, "never show everything", applies and is true to the ideal that the art of becoming nude is just as enticing as being nude itself. Great book for nostalgia, collectors of these pictures, and artists, like myself, who have delved into this style and could use a little inspiration once in awhile. Black and white photos from popular magazines--a real look inside the content of a vintage pin up magazine. Dialog throughout is interesting and increases factual/historical knowledge. The only downside of this book, is in making it small and portable, some of the page cropping cuts off typed words and leaves you wondering!

    Awsome book for classic pin up art! great for tattoo reference! I would recomend this book to anyone interested in pin up art or collector of pin up art.
