Product Information

Sinatra's first big starring role in a musical comedy about a bankrupt businessman who schemes with his household staff to come up with some cash. They choose to hoodwink the boy-next-door (Sinatra), who happens to be filthy rich, into marrying a maid who's posing as the businessman's daughter. The plan is scuttled when con man Borge happens onto the scene, imitating a wealthy aristocrat. OK musical, but mostly notable for young Frank. Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Song ("I Couldn't Sleep a Wink Last Night").

Yes, I'm a popular singer
Mel Torme and Victor Borge, in their younger years, serve to make this film interesting - and especially viewing a young Sinatra, on the sunny side of 30, and definitely conveying that this was his "yes, I'm a popular singer, but hardly an actor yet" stage. Michele Morgan is an annoying, inane presence, and Jack Haley is an actor whose appeal has always been totally lost on me. Leon Erroll is silly, as always, but overall pretty funny. 7 stars of a potential 10 is about the right "grade," because with the combination of its positive aspects, along with the lack of much of a story, and a silly one at that, and the fore-mentioned annoyances - it is overall average at best. Brilliant movie for its time period in Hollywood history
The great Helen Morgan who popularized torch songs to America here takes a later in life speaking role in which in one scene she listens to a young Frank Sinatra sing the kind of torch song she made famous and which Sinatra would soon regularly perform as star. This is Hollywood at its most memorable. The editing and cinematography though dated in terms of modern technology seems so clear and crisp it makes this DVD a fond memory and an important reference for any move buff interested in films of the period.A silly comedy in which nothing makes sense including the tacked on ending may seem dated to millenium audiences yet was the hallmark of classic 1930's Hollywood./ For those who want to experience what still earned Hollywood money at the time this is a prime example. Movie goers who ... A must have for Frank Sinatra fans. Wonderfully funny and 💓 warming. The music is sheer poetry. I loved everything about it and getting it on DVD was great. I give it 100 🌟 s if I could.

Higher And Higher
Love this movie. Sinatra is young, still Sinatra. Great music, rather a good plot,entertaining, fun. Mel Torme is in here too, young, of course, but is great. Don't expect anything like todays' kind of movie, it isn't...from a different era, kinder, "nicer", softer, but, very good, and quite funny where it's suppose to be.
