Product Information

This is a true travel story/ memoir of adventures, friendship, youth, ambitions, romances, difficult relationships, and spiritual search for life and Art. Jean-Pierre is infatuated from the start by a woman coming by herself on an ocean liner anchored in the midst of the Indian Ocean. Streetwise world travelers they decide to travel together. Both are penniless when they arrive in Bombay, India. Jean-Pierre doesn't speak English and Jill had only picked-up few French words in the Seychelle Islands. Each day brings more difficulties in spite of their strong attraction. Jill, sophisticated, educated in an university in California and Jean-Pierre a Frenchman in his early twenties with no high school education found it difficult to overcome the age difference and diversity in their backgrounds, searches and goals. Jill, clever and shamelessly open about herself and her adventurous past wants to know all about Jean-Pierre. He has never confided, never explored his feelings and is afraid of talking about himself. But pushed by Jill he describes where he has been and why and what his dream is: becoming a true artist. He tells of his love of horses while riding 6 days a week as an apprentice-jockey near Paris. His travel with Yvan his best friend through the Arab and Muslim countries around the Mediterranean. Of Yvan's abandoning their dream of walking to South Africa, while he went on alone through the Sahara and later around the Equator, then Southern and East Africa before meeting Jill in the Indian Ocean. In India it seems that life is in their faces every second. Jill won't let him go back in thoughts to his life of adventures in Africa. She demands for him to be present with her at all times, so hard for him. Even the holy men, the sadhus seem to know more of Jean-Pierre that he knows of himself and they communicate in mysterious ways, even telepathy. Jean-Pierre, painfully aware of his youth, how Jill is superior in character suffers of his shallowness. Dangerous travels to Pakistan and Afghanistan tress even more their loving relationship and Jill abandons their dream of riding horses through Afghanistan and they split. Jill will go teach in Iran and Jean-Pierre will go look for himself through Swat Valley in North Pakistan, hoping to heal a broken heart. After J.P. FINDS HIS SPIRIT he goes back to Afghanistan, buys a horse and wandering blissfully happy experiences the desert landscape. But meeting the various tribal people will become challenging and extremely dangerous. The names of the persons have not been changed and places and times are real. This project took ten years. Again Jill's teaching has rendered my life true and also my Art.
