Reviews
This book is the first to examine the composer's work in detail, and in so doing demonstrates why and how James Newton Howard's film music style is challenging to pigeonhole. The comprehensive analysis in this book also affords the first significantly broad examination of the music in any of Shyamalan's films. It deserves a place in any thorough library of film and film musical studies.

Synopsis
Released in 2002, M. Night Shyamalan's Signs was the director's follow-up to The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, and his third collaboration with composer James Newton Howard. Well received by audiences and critics alike, the film was often cited by reviewers for its music. With its dependence on a single motive, the score is unique in Howard's career, and one of his most effective and haunting works. In James Newton Howard's Signs: A Film Score Guide, Erik Heine provides the first close reading of the composer's work. Heine discusses Howard's musical style and influences, as well as his ability to compose for a variety of genres, acknowledging him as one of the most versatile composers working today. The book shows how early sketches of cues for Signs were developed into the final score, allowing the reader insight into Howard's compositional process. The book also demonstrates how Howard's style is difficult to pigeonhole, since his focus is on serving the needs of the film. Drawing on completed orchestrated scores, as well as other material from the James Newton Howard Archive at the University of Southern California, the level of musical detail provided in this volume is unsurpassed. As a book that addresses Howard's compositional style-and the only volume that significantly examines the music in any Shyamalan film-James Newton Howard's Signs: A Film Score Guide will be of interest to music scholars, film scholars, and fans of the composer's work., Released in 2002, M. Though The Sixth Sense is the most famous collaboration of Howard and director M. Night Shyamalan, the film score for Signs is held in much higher esteem. This book provides background information on Howard, discusses some of his most memorable scores, and also emphasizes the working relationship between Howard and his directors, most notably Shyamalan.

- o***l (310)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Dernière annéeAchat vérifiéThe item was described to a Tee. Very good communication. Shipping was just a little slow. The box the set of books comes in was damaged (bent corners) due to packaging. Not a deal breaker because the grand kids will not store in that box; might be if it were to be given as a present. The three books in the box arrived in prefect shape. I WOULD purchase from greatbookprices1 again in the future. ThanksConstruction Site Board Books Set, Hardcover by Rinker, Sherri Duskey; Lichte... - i***y (710)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifié2 volumes of Pogo comic strips, new and in perfect condition. Price was good, but shipping cost ($30 for two books) seems like a lot for how long it took to get delivered (23 days from Illinois to Spain). Also, seller communication was not great. First two times I wrote, their response did not address question. Third response explained at length about the private courier service they use and how it should take 1-10 business days to deliver. Maybe they should consider a different courier service.
- r***_ (108)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Dernier moisAchat vérifié*Same as the other review* Purchased two box sets from this seller with one being advertised as "like new" but was delivered as if it was actually new. Shipping time was a little slow, takes about 10 days to ship out and it takes a while to get through the system. But the packing was great and I'm still overall happy with my purchase.
