À propos de ce produit

Product Information

For nearly twenty-five years, Mildred Council--better known by her nickname, Mama Dip--has nourished thousands of hungry folks in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her restaurant, Mama Dip's Kitchen, is a much-loved community institution that has gained loyal fans and customers from all walks of life, from New York Times food writer Craig Claiborne to former Tar Heel basketball player Michael Jordan. Mama Dip's Kitchen showcases the same down-home, wholesome, everyday Southern cooking for which its namesake restaurant is celebrated. The book features more than 250 recipes for such favorites as old-fashioned chicken pie, country-style pork chops, sweet potatoes, fresh corn casserole, poundcake, and banana pudding. Chapters cover breads and breakfast dishes; poultry, fish, and seafood; beef, pork, and lamb; vegetables and salads; and desserts, beverages, and party dishes. The book opens with a charming introductory essay, a savory reflection on a life in cooking that also reveals the story behind Council's nickname. It is both a graceful reminiscence of a country childhood and the inspiring story of a woman determined to make her own way in the larger world.

  • Mama Dip's Kitchen

After our local newspaper did a short story on Mildred Council (who lives in the Triangle area of North Carolina), I was intrigued by her. I checked out the book from the library and loved it so much that I bought this copy online. The best part of the book is the beginning where she tells stories of her life growing up, and how she became famous at the ripe age of 70. I made the 45 minute trip to her restaurant in Chapel Hill (one block from the university) and after enjoying a bowl of grits and a country ham biscuit (likely the best ham biscuit I have ever eaten), had the unforgettable pleasure of sitting down with her and talking to her about how much I enjoyed learning of her life. I bought her other book then and had her autograph it. She is so easy to approach and she is just so ...

  • Southern regional cookbook

I decided to buy this book because I had heard so many positive reports about her restaurant. I also recalled that the book was recommended to Rachel Ray when I was watching one of her travel shows. This is much more than just a cookbook! The story of her life growing up in North Carolina was so interesting. While reading her story, I felt as if she were sitting there talking to me. Since I am a Southern, the stories are so typical of the ones heard from older generations regardless of race. The recipes are easy to follow and I love the comments with many of them. Once again, you feel she is right there talking with you and you just want to get in the kitchen and start cooking. I definitely will treasure this one and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves history as well as ...

  • Great Book

I purchased this book over 10 years ago when I 1st saw it on QVC. I loved the recipes. I brought a send copy for my brother because he love to cook. Then I couldn't find my copy so I had to search and another one. I am so very happy that I found my wonderful "Mama Dip's Kitchen" on Ebay. I love you Ebay

  • Just like grandma used to make

I am a "northern, southern" cook. People always ask me if I came from the south. I was one of those kids that hung around the kitchen watching my mom and grandma cook. I still cook like them, some of their recipes I have improved upon but I know that they were always better cooks than me. Some of their recipes I didn't get a chance to learn but I have found several of them in Mama Dips Kitchen. I made the lemon cream pie for Thanksgiving, my family fell in love with it. I just bought 5 more of these books as Christmas gifts for my children and one for my sister. Thinking about going back & getting a couple more for my grandchildren that are striking out on my own. Yes, the book is that good. Better get it while you can. A lot of those lost recipes will be found here.
