Winter People is an outstanding sleeper of a movie
The movie is full of multiple plots and subplots involving two different clans of Eastern Mountain People. It is a movie about love, greed and ignorance, bullies, and caring people living meager lives in a mountain community in the 1920s. I purchased it because I had seen it prior and wanted it for my "movies with excellent stories" collection. The times are poor and the living hard without modern convenience, however the human effort goes on and thrives despite want and hard living. A stranger (a clockmaker by trade) and his daughter are thrown into this mix by accident (or fate) and he becomes the protagonist and a part of this clannish human effort. Most of the movie occurs in the bleak winter months when life is even more of a hardship without modern utilities, yet this group of ... I found this "sleeper" movie several years ago when I was desperately trying to find something different. I had never seen this movie advertised and frankly I am amazed that it didn't get more exposure. Stars Kurt Russell and Kelly McGillis. Set in the mountain country with beautiful winter scenery it contains elements of love, jealousy, murder mixed with a family feud and a family's love for the female character that is hampered by it's strict moral code. The heroine lives alone with her son (known to some hill people as a "woods colt") Set during the Depression Era with Kurt Russell as a city clock maker stranded with his daughter in the mountains after his car breaks down. They stumble onto the isoluted home of this woman up in the mountains. She harbors a secret with late night ... Needless to say a romance develops between Russell and the woman, but is it an accident or murder that the villian dies in the harsh winter? If you'd like a different romantic movie then this tale of mountain folk and their love triangle are well worth watching. Photography is great. I'm surprised that more people haven't discovered it over the years. I have two copies and I've watched it over and over again. Even my husband likes the movie and the romantic ones do not usually hold his attention like this one.

Excellent Movie, for Anyone, to watch! HARD, to Find, for Sure !
Very RARE, and Hard, to Find, DVD Movie! Not sure, WHY, this Excellent Movie, was NOT, More Highly Rated ? Excellent Actors, Good Movie Plot. I saw it, Many years ago, and Always, wanted to own it ! Glad to BUY, it OFF e-bay! :-)

I had seen this movie just once and never forgot it, so I searched the internet to find a copy. I enjoyed watching it the second time as much as the first.

Thank you for this dvd
It’s Rare OOP DVD and contains with closed-captioning that’s where I am mostly interested. I am Deaf myself and noticed Blu-rays decreased their quality in closed captioning or features etc.
