Anything but "empty"
While this is not a great film it entertained me. I give it an average rating because good is not great. An actor struggling with his lack of success finally enters into a bargain performing a duty that will allow him to pay down his debts. He had no idea what he was signing to do. The cast is fun (Jon Favereau, Adam Beach, Darryl Hannah and Sean Bean as well as a cameo with Kelsey Grammar) and they're genuine in their roles, odd as some of them are. There are strange people in the truck stop town of Baker California and even stranger things happening in the wastelands in the middle of the night. Having an instant appreciation for small films set in the desert helps. Have some guy with his back against the wall he sometimes wishes to hide behind makes it even more fun. The lure of sex and ... The lure of sex and money are overpowering but the price looks too steep for Jon Person (our character's stage name). Still, no matter how hard he tries to play it straight he still seems to be courting chaos. Jealous boyfriends, an FBI agent investigating the death of the man who hired Jon and then there's talk of aliens in the high desert, and the mysterious and deadly "Cowboy" and his British accent. This is a good romp with heart. If you like a tinge of the weird and good characters set in small places this might be your movie.

The Big Empty that's full of mystery!
This movie starred a few known and unknowns but was very well acted, directed and produced. The plot is crazy but holds your attention as the next turn may lead away from the previous idea altogether. So, you better be watchin'. The soundtrack to this movie is great, there are many songs on it from little known music artist too. This is a strange movie about a bowling bag that will hold your interest better than any other bowling bag you may know of. The more I have watched this movie the more I found in it. The Big Yawn
I'm a fan of strange films, and this one is certainly strange, but - it appears to me - only for the sake of being strange. It tries to hard to be something it's not. I was bored for most of the running time but watched to the end so you won't have to. You're welcome.

The movie is filmed like a grade B movie intentionally I think to emphsize the space, not only externally in the desert but the space between people and between words. It is the emptiness that allows our imagination the freedom for speculation. This movie takes us out of our comfort zone and makes us a participant in questioning what the heck is going on? The characters seem so sterotypical but there is a difference between seeming and reality. What is the reality here? What has happened to the 75 people that vanished? Who is The Cowboy? What is happening out there in the desert?
