À propos de ce produit

Product Information

This spooky addition to Alvin Schwartz's popular books on American folklore is filled with tales of eerie horror and dark revenge that will make you jump with fright. There is a story here for everyone -- skeletons with torn and tangled flesh who roam the earth; a ghost who takes revenge on her murderer; and a haunted house where every night a bloody head falls down the chimney. Stephen Gammell's splendidly creepy drawings perfectly capture the mood of more than two dozen scary stories -- and even scary songs -- all just right for reading alone or for telling aloud in the dark. If You Dare!

  • Scary, cute, and humorous reading

I had this book when I was in Elementary and am now 26. I loved it then and I love it now. This is a great book to read by a campfire, slumber party, or just to pass the time. I have read some schools banned it, supposedly for the artists' unique and eerie illustrations, but I guess that all depends on the parent. For me, the illustrations were what I remembered so vividly about the book as a child and enjoyed. Personally, I'd let a fourth grader on read this collection of scary stories and folklore.

  • Great for Halloween Parties!

Written for upper elementary students and above, this book is full of stories sure to make you jump! Great for a Halloween party or for telling stories around the campfire, tips are included to help you tell the stories to achieve the maximum "scare" factor. The illustrations have an eerie, spooky quality that perfectly compliment these tales. Includes a brief history of each story.

  • Still As Good as It Always Was!

I used to read these books when I was younger and they scared the you-know-what out of me! I bought these for a 10 year old friend of mine and the pictures completely freaked her out - I'm not even sure if she's gotten to the stories yet! I read some of the stories over again and even as an adult they still give me chills. Gotta love this book!

  • Collection of folk tales from around the world

Short folksy tales past down over time. Some were poems, others are scary tales set to a tune. All stories were accompanied by hand drawn art. Not a epic tome at all short and easy to read. Excellent source for campfire stories. My main motivation for purchase was the art. I have a nephew who was compelled to have himself tattooed with the artwork. Curious.

  • Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark by Alvin Schwartz

I had this book as a child & I loved it! Some of the stories are silly, and some are really spine tingling. And the illustrations are very creepy too! I'm 31 now & I still remember most of the stories & "The Hearse Song." "Don't ever laugh as a hearse goes by, for you may be the next to die!"
